CAIRO: Asyut International Airport received its first flight Saturday after being closed for almost a year, Youm7 reported.
The flight arrived from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates carrying 150 passengers who were received by airport workers with flowers.
The airport was re-opened after maintenance works carried out to its main runways, chairman of the Egyptian Company for Airports Mohamed Mahgoub told Youm7.
The renovation and maintenance works at the airport cost 120 million EGP ($16.5m,) Mahgoub said, adding that during the closure period, flights were landing and departing from alternative airport in Sohag.
