Re: Appropriate..or not?
I don't know what is normal in these circumstances. I can only comment from personal observation. I have seen muslim funeral processions but never seen any flowers. I have also walked many times through the grave yard at Qurna and don't recall ever seeing any trace of flowers or plaques.

it is what you do with what happens to you.

Re: Appropriate..or not?
I used to go to a local cemetery with an Egyptian friend to water the palms, bushes etc. with a lorry load of water he'd bought.
That was his way of paying respect......an act of general goodness.
I don't think laying of cut flowers, or anything else, on a grave is part of normal islamic custom

Flowers ?....
Seems only in Blighty tying the 'old yellow ribbon around the old oak tree seems very popular now.
As whatever the Yanks do we do soon after, So if someone dies, buy a bunch of flowers, who cares if you don't even know them..
at least the florists are laughing all the way to the bank.
Emotional outpouring of grief ? f**ing spare me your stupidity, at least the florists are happy.....
