An interesting clip from 1931.
I imagine the Sphinx enclosure is still prone to sand storms...but can't recall reading of any cleaning efforts on this scale

An interesting clip from 1931.

Interesting old film clip, comparing it to the present day it would seem that those surrounding sand dunes were never really cleared away properly, so each year they would creep back towards the base of the Sphinx. Whereas today apart from the usual blown litter, I suppose the present day site is comparatively sand free.
