Re: New Video's
Well considering it is so bad in the South of Cyprus, according to your posts, you may like to answer the following questions, on average we have between 10 and 12 flights come into the South of the Island every day from the UK, plus many other flights from Europe. That"s far more than can be said for a certain International Airport that now struggles to keep a cafeteria open. The tourist influx to the South of the island rose by over 32,000 compared to May 2017. For a small Island that takes 2 hours to drive from East to West and 1 hour from North to South that is some going, so they are certainly doing a lot more here than other tourist places we know of. It's Monday today I went for my nightly walk along the beach and in the space of 1.5 hours 7 Aircraft had come into Paphos airport. In my mind that says something, what does it say in the mind of a LUXOR Resident? You see I do not mind you puling Cyprus to bits because you know full well there is loads of work here very little poverty, loads to do and a big variety, more than can be said of where you live, ok the cost of living is higher but you get what you pay for, good medicare with no waiting or even people choking corridors up bringing food in for patients. Perfectly smooth roads, Police vehicles that cover over 200KM per day, good street lighting that is properly maintained. Fully equipped ambulances with Paramedics, real and proper driving tests. I could go on but will not do because I am sure you will all know.

Re: New Video's
From Todays Cyprus Mail
TWO demonstrations protesting against increasing levels of crime in Cyprus took place in Paphos and Limassol on Monday morning.
Organiser and Paphos resident, Irina (surname withheld), told the Cyprus Mail that she organised the ‘flashmob against crime’ to encourage the public to stand together and call on authorities to take immediate action.
“Crime is starting to get out of control in Cyprus and especially in Paphos where there aren’t enough police and those we do have are overworked. We can stop this is we intervene now,” she said.
Around 20 or so Russian residents turned out to demonstrate in Paphos and a few less in Limassol.
Irina said that long-term Russian residents in particular are concerned about increasing numbers of burglaries, home invasions and drug related crime, including shootings and murders, on the island.
On occasion, burglars are entering houses while residents are in adjacent rooms or asleep, she said.
Originally from Moscow, Irina has lived in Paphos with her family for the last 18 years, drawn by the apparent safety of the island. However, she says this is changing and many homes, including hers in Kamares, where she lives with her family, have been burgled in the last few years.
Kamares is a popular, luxury hillside development that enjoys sweeping views across Paphos and the coastline. Many of its residents are wealthy expats from Russia, Britain and China who moved to the area drawn by the peace and safety.
“From year 2013 the level of crime started to worry our family. We have young children and they were badly affected by burglary in December 2013. It caused a huge amount of stress just before Christmas and our New Year celebrations were ruined. Our two Range Rovers were taken, along with jewellery, TVs and computers.”
Irina said that the problem is compounded by insufficient police patrols due to a lack of staff, particularity in the Paphos district.
However, police figures for the first half of 2018 show a drop in the number of burglaries for the Paphos district, according to Paphos police.
“In 2017, from January to April there were 111 burglaries, whereas there were 62 burglaries for the same period this years,” a police spokesman said.
Despite the overall drop, it appears gangs may be specifically targeting wealthy expat areas. Irina also believes some burglaries are not reported or if they are, police don’t always register them.
“Our British neighbour reported a break in but the police didn’t even bother to turn up,” she said.
The Kamares resident said that the group has spoken to the head of Paphos police, Nicos Pentaras, who was supportive.
“He has promised to come to our meeting in Kamares and police patrols have been in the area. They also sent out leaflets on how to avoid burglaries, she said.
The group is currently garnering signatures calling on authorities to take measures to reduce crime and will also send letters sent to various bodies and government departments including the ministry of Justice.
“We want to help the police. We need stricter punishments for criminals, and more policemen. We are worried and we want to take our safe way of life back,” she said.
Next month’s demonstration in Paphos will be held next to the police station in Kennedy square on Monday June 4 from 8am-10am

Re: New Video's
If you flaunt your wealth these things will happen in any Country, I bet there would be plenty that would be proud to say "My Range Rover got attacked in Luxor" I never saw one all the time I was in Luxor.
I had plenty of dealing with the Police so what you say about them means nothing, if a police vehicle collided with a taxi in Luxor it would get waved on and the taxi left to its own devices. This happened to us on the Mercure roundabout in Luxor.
Guess where the main offenders are from? or do you need telling, already there are moves against them. I live in Tala/Kamares and agree there have been an increase in burglaries, but like I say leave your Bugatti outside or your Rollup in the drive you will be asking for trouble from these lawless immigrants.
You can normally get a case to court within 10 months unlike where you live, and then after 2 years it is still getting delayed and put off, in the hope you give in and forget about it. So really what you have put on here means nothing and if you read it you will know that, and it will not put tourists off, unlike a disturbance and the following formed Police State where you live In Tala/Kameras last year there were 5 raids on homes where they got away with anything, and those culprits were picked up on security cameras. My villa in Luxor was attacked twice in 1 year, my wife as you know was attacked in broad daylight, the courts failed to convict a thief who stole some of my money, due to not knowing what they were doing and giving the thief plenty of opportunities to escape, thankfully that got sorted out in Cairo, and the result was what I had been waiting for 4 years in Luxor. All you are doing is really having a go at something that is still minor, to cover up the failings where you live, and because you have a failing in media outlets to report the true state of the Country no one can say what is going on there. Think also there are 50,000 approx ex pats in Paphos compared with maybe half a dozen in Luxor the percentages are bound to be higher. If the Countries that the offenders in Cyprus came from dealt with crime and poverty, there would be no reason for them to leave their oppressive Countries and start a new life of crime.

Re: New Video's
Cyprus Press.
Following an argument in a bar in Coral Bay Paphos, two British men stood in to prevent a woman being assaulted and injured. Later the two men were found run down by a motorist, one was pronounced dead on the spot and the other is critically injured in Paphos General Hospital, but is expected to live. The offending vehicle was later found at the Harbour in Cap St George. Two British people have been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and are in custody.
Just to let you know of further news you may have missed. Everyone is grateful these morons have been found and are now awaiting trial.
Police have now started roadside checks to uphold the drink and driving laws, from now until October regular roadside checks will be made to prevent people drinking and driving.
Police raided a home in Paphos of 2 illegal immigrants and found property to the value of 250,000 Euros, stolen in burglaries around Paphos. A further 12 people were arrested believed to be a ring of immigrants and refugees intent of breaking the Countries laws.
You see things do happen here, and we are made well aware of them. Nothing gets covered up! The majority of home break in's are caused by people flaunting their wealth, what we locally call, sell to buy! (People selling their UK homes, and buying flash things and showing them off). Local people do not like these type and will not be bothered to help. Horus said that Kameras which is the run into village next to Tala is known for its wealth, there is nothing there only massive villas, with pools and tennis courts. The village flaunts itself and because its out of the way it opens itself up to raids. I personally do not believe this will change because money in this world rules. We will have to see what happens in the future and if the EU closes its ridiculous open border laws.
The only thing you could say is that thieves know full well if they break into a home here they will get away with something of value.
There is a place 100 metres from my home with a Corvette Stingray and another US Muscle car on the drive, just advertising itself to thieves. Neither of these cars have moved since we moved here, (Not one inch) Wonder why??

That's true.If you flaunt your wealth these things will happen in any Country,
Maybe telling everyone that you fed your dog on more than the average monthly earnings of a West Bank villager marked you out as someone worth knocking over when you lived here.

Not that you can generally be accused of bragging about your realtive wealth...oh no.... (ahem!)

Is it me? I thought this forum was Luxor4u? Am I interested in what happens in Southern Cyprus? Do I care? Errrr no. Actually I don't give a flying f**k! I visit the forum because I'm interested in Luxor, not Limassol.
MT - you live in Cyprus. You profess to be leading an extremely happy, fulfilled life now that you've escaped the apparent "hell-hole" of Luxor. Good, I'm pleased for you, get on with it.
But STOP THIS CONSTANT DRIVEL, COMPARING THE TWO! ITS BORING, UNINTERESTING, AND TEDIOUS. And it raises my blood pressure, so give it a rest.

As an ex British 'plod on the spot, Why don't you offer some of Your years of experience ? to these 'Jonny come lately coppers'
I fully understand one, of your many past failures that of 'edicating the yuf of Luxor about the art of the motor cycle,
But, don't be downhearted, don't let one or two perhaps 3, total catastrophe's deter you from your determination
to introduce 'sleuths to the No1 retirement resort of old-lags on the run.

My car in Luxor is a Coupe. It has received nothing but admiration, I often found a couple a chaps stroking it while they checked it over. I bought it for the huge boot - I can get 9 crates of dates for example in the back. They admire it because it's basically a 2 seater though it is possible to get a couple of uncomfortable passengers in the back, it would mean to the average chap that they wouldn't have to ferry the family. I deny that is one of the reasons I bought it.

I remember someone just had to personally show you the way to main road (the long way round) just because you'd dropped me off at their house and they'd never ridden in anything quite so sporty. (Actually, they'd probably never ridden in anything more sporty than the local minibus! ;-) )

I was actually broadsided twice by another driver, who in each case just seemed fascinated by the car and wanted to get in with me -forgetting to get out of their car first.
You were with me the second time Doctor, I'd only just got the car back from the garage after the first prang.
Those were the days eh?

Sounds like you had a taxi more than a private car MD, hope your fares were reasonable...To make it worse, Cyprus has just made its final step to having an NHS, good for older people and those spending a fortune back and forth to the UK for treatment, yes! we have the same cheats here, but most have medical insurance, so the percentage is low
