From a post on Official Ancient Egypt Magazine Facebook page:
A new tomb excavation!
Ahead of the 100-year anniversary of the discovery of King Tut’s tomb, Storied Media Group has acquired the
production and sponsorship rights to a large archeological
excavation in Egypt’s Valley of the Kings, to begin in September, led by renowned Egyptologist and archaeologist
Dr. Zahi Hawass. (..) The focus of the excavations will be
an area near the tomb of the Golden King Tutankhamun — known
as KV 62 — and an area near the tomb of King Merenptah,
according to Hawass. This is the first time that there has been excavation within yards of King Tut’s tomb based on
promising scans of the area.
As far as I can tell this is legit. I'm watching for developments and links.

Re: A New Tomb Excavation Near KV62
Presumably Hawass isn't counting KV 63 (excavated 2005 et seq and only a few metres from Tut) as he didn't discover itWinged Isis wrote: This is the first time that there has been excavation within yards of King Tut’s tomb .......

Sounds like it'll be a right media fest with the gruesome Discovery Channel on hand to trivialise archaeology.
Also sounds as if Zaki's efforts in the Western Valley are not yielding the results he'd hoped for in his desperate search for egyptological glory.

Re: A New Tomb Excavation Near KV62
I feel sick.
Archaeology is a complex technical, careful, slow bit of work using people with many years of training and education.
This ‘initiative’ is the first time in recent generations when rights have been given to money making/entertainment trash to do the work. What is the betting that the Supreme Antiques will provide the slaves and technical staff for the project although you would need an auditor to know whether these wages were paid for by the Americans. The Supreme (Un)Antiques must have given approval for this.
Storied Media Group of the US is an entertainment/TV/copyright company with absolutely no experience in this area, no experience of actually making docos. except selling the legal images on the TV to idiots who don’t even notice what they are watching. Their standing in serious docos is zero but this type of trash is exactly what Luxor doesn’t need but exactly the type of people Hawass knows well. They are majority owned by a German company whose business is the ownership of TV and film copyright – but generally not docos. And definitely not the making of docos.
These people are driven entirely by money – in the sense that they don’t care about the damage because they need some doco drama to film and they need it quick.
Only a man who cared nothing for his countries heritage would get into bed with such creatures. How the Government still gives this fired/retired man any authority over anything in Egypt is beyond me. He is gone.
This is what Hawass the hysteric said a few days ago to stimulate interest in the money making/time sensitive doco:
“this upcoming excavation holds the promise of changing everything we know about the Valley of the Kings.” https://deadline.com/2018/07/storied-me ... 202431666/
How could he possibly know this or is he a person that doesn't care about truth?
No responsible government in the world would allow this to happen because of risk and the money motives of the players.
Storied Media has a trash corporate headquarters in an industrial estate in Santa Monica. Todd Hoffman the owner/chief executive/founder might be Jewish and maybe someone will inform the diggers on this project of this with a view to them not digging/rioting.
Given the track record of someone does anyone assume that money changing hands is not an issue. Could it be the case that government assets are being used for personal profit?
This initiative tells me all I need to know about Hawass and all that is denied about him by members of this forum who have never retracted their adoration for him.

Thanks, Hafiz, I knew you'd know some background to this.
“this upcoming excavation holds the promise of changing everything we know about the Valley of the Kings."
That is sooooo typical of him.

Re: A New Tomb Excavation Near KV62
What seems very important today is that we have to have a very good memory of the archeological history of the King's and Western Valley, and we must always view this with an open mind, rather than accept the glossy books we find today, that would rather sensationalise general run of the mill activities. What I want to do is set out two fine examples of discovery.
Back in the day of Davis-Ayrton-Winlock a discovery was made known today as the Gold Tomb in the Valley of the Kings, it certainly was not a tomb and very little gold, however few realised the significance of how important this discovery was towards the actual finding of KV 62. Howard Carter knew exactly what this find was all about.
Theodore Davis thought he had discovered the remains of Tutankhamoun, in fact when the 'body' was analysed, the bones were that of a chicken, a rather ancient one at that. This I believe was the real turning point, Davis to declare 'no more tombs'. In the meantime Carter knew better, and although he had an idea which parts of the Valley had been excavated by Davis, he did obtain a secret plan from Ayrton showing full details. So the question should be, why did it take Carter so long to find KV 62 ?
I now come to recent history, many will remember the discovery of KV 63 by the great Dr Otto Schaden, a really wonderful down to earth man, who alas is no longer with us. I remember many a day Dr Schaden would sit on a wall, with a large umbrella over him gazing down the Valley waiting for various national dignitaries to look over his site in truth who spent very little time at the site, the poor man was in his 70's then.
As daft as it may sound this was a joint find with the help from a certain Dr Zahi Hawass. What is interesting here is that both Hawass and Davis are known in the business as what is called 'high speed archeologist' , I think that speaks for it's self. As a direct result of the find of KV 63, Hawass thought it prudent to plough up, (I use the word carefully) a trench from that tomb all the way down to KV 62, then did a sharp turn to the left up towards the tomb of Merenptah. The depth of this trench varied but near 5/6 Ram the depth was to bedrock at almost thirty feet.
On Friday November 27th 2015, under the title of Tut's Tomb on this forum, I wrote that it was unlikely that anything would be found behind the north wall of the tomb, for the reason I give above. During the period of that 'dig' Hawass found exactly the same as he found in the Western Valley,.........nothing.
The strange thing today is that a new televised series are to film the antics of a 'dig' that has already been dug out, that revealed nothing more than pottery,.................who knows perhaps we may discover modern day chicken bones.

When Zahi was a lot younger he was thrown out of The Habu Hotel and already barred from Sheik Ali's.
My mate said he took up residence in a tomb for quite some time, I believe.
I also know that A.R.E. sponsored any education and 'diplomas he has, but then Edgar Cayce's (weirdo) people
have that 'long view attitude, they also sponsored Mark Leyner....
On a personal level, he's really not a nice human..

That would have been when He the inspector for Giza, when he became the the director of that area, he would come down to the WB, he regarded every one, I do mean everyone as country bumpkins. I remember when he took away all the keys, because he regarded every one as crooks. I was alright I had seen everything I wanted. He even took away the keys of the small rooms of two temples on the WB that in truth was part of the price of viewing the temples some time earlier as part of the agreement after restoration by foreign teams had completed their work.Who2 wrote:When Zahi was a lot younger)
I know a great deal about this man, and would love to write more, but I respect old friends in Luxor, it has been known for retirement pensions to be cancelled and for such highly respected people to get only the state pension.
I can think of many people who could write the true book, but that will have to wait until he is dead, and just to make sure,.... buried.
