I cant understand why not crewmeal, reports say he is innocent although he may have been a little naive in his choice of research.

Re: Another project on security
It puzzles me that a university graduate could be so dumb as to sign a document in Arabic.....which he could neither read nor write.
It's also puzzling that the UAE would "invent" a case against a student of a major ally. To what purpose?
The Regeni incident is probably a case of Egypt's paranoid security aparatus going overboard. The lady locked up in Iran....well. a useful bargaining tool. But UAE?
Unfortunately, if push comes to shove, I suspect the UK will take the same approach regarding retaliation as the US have done with Saudi Arabia over Khashoggi.
Zilch.

Re: Another project on security
If he didn't get permission for his project as stated in the press then he asked for trouble. Why didn't he approach the authorities in the first place? he may have either had help or shown the door without all this happening to him.I cant understand why not crewmeal
The Middle East is so security sensitive that anyone poking their noses around is asking for trouble.

Makes you wonder why they are so security conscious, maybe due to so many reports and things coming out and the way they concoct stories up. but no matter what it is rife across the area.

Until one has heard all the evidence against the accused all is rhetoric and conjecture..

Re: Another project on security
Tongue in cheek Hatusu. Non of them would know what rel security is! They only think of people suppression being the top security method. Suppress, keep them in chains, and threats are not the way. But will they learn, I doubt it, their way of life is draconian to the real world..

Re: Another project on security
Sounds like the PhD student has been given a presidential pardon and is being released.
That's that sorted then

Re: Another project on security
I wonder where he'll go next. I hope he doesn't think of coming to Egypt or else he'll be in real trouble. Not even Mr Hunt could sort that one out.
I think the Govt of ther UAE have done well to release this guy so soon after what he'd been up to.

Re: Another project on security
Providing what the UAE say is true, its a hard one to see from both sides. Agree that if he cane to Egypt there would be no chance of him leaving and no chance of Mr Hunt negotiating. Maybe if he dressed has a duck, he may just get away with it... Anyone going to the Middle East from the Western World to me seems to be at risk, it's such a suspicious part of the World. It maybe that the education standards are so far apart and that other things, (I don't have to say what) I always think politics and belief's are never to be joined as one.
