COVID-19 in Egypt: Wearing face masks to be obligatory in public areas
“In the future, wearing face masks will be obligatory in public places,” said Egyptian Cabinet spokesperson Nader Saad on Saturday, revealing that Egypt will take gradual steps to cope with the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
In a phone call with “Cairo Now” talk show on al-Hadath T.V. channel, Saad said that the crisis of COVID-19 will last until the end of 2020, noting that Egypt will increase the transportation means to prevent any possible crowding.
"The government will increase the production lines of medical equipment such as face masks," he continued.
Egypt’s House of Representatives passed new amendments to the Law of Health Precautions against Infectious Diseases No. 137 of 1908, granting the Ministry of Health larger powers to fight the outbreak of an infectious disease.
As per the newly-added articles, the minister of health has the authority to ask the individuals to wear medical face masks and other medical protective equipment while outside their homes in extremis. Violation of such measures is a crime that is punishable by a fine between LE 300 and LE 5,000.
As yet, the COVID-19 cases in Egypt have reached 4,319 and the mortality rate rose to 307 deaths. The number of coronavirus cases whose tests turned from positive to negative increased to 1,450, including 1,114 people who recovered from the virus.
Since mid-March, Egypt has taken strict measures to protect the public from the spread of the coronavirus. The government has taken gradual steps in dealing with the coronavirus spread, starting with suspending schools and universities, and international flights.
Furthermore, a night-time curfew has been imposed since March 24, 2020. Additionally, the Ministry of Awqaf [Endowment] extended the closure of the mosques and the places of worship nationwide until further notice.

I hope that the limitations of the use of face masks are also being highlighted. So many people still think they are going to protect you from getting the virus, not understanding that actually it's to protect others. Also there is a correct way to wear and handle masks.
Given how difficult it is for the general population of many nations to be able to purchase face masks - and if available they are at highly inflated prices - it would be to the advantage of the Egyptian population if there were some 'How To' tutorials in newspapers and on the television for DIY fac masks... and instructions that they need to be washed regularly even if they have a disposable (eg kitchen paper) lining in them.

I thought that likely to be the case.
Lots of online tutorials to make your own. Just make sure you incorporate a pocket in it that you can insert a disposable piece such as kitchen paper that can be changed when it gets moist or after use.

I can't get any in Birmingham. Any chance of an order? My new cocktail is Dettol and Ginger Ale with ice. I'll recommend it to the White House.

Re: COVID-19 in Egypt: Wearing face masks to be obligatory in public areas
I heard yesterday that the people of Luxor are finally waking up to the presence of Corona Virus.
More face masks and a recognition that people do have the virus here.
I was actually told that every street in Luxor now has someone who is sick and that the hospitals are over whelmed, Please take care.

Thanks for the above post, it's difficult to hear true facts emanating from somewhere I love.
Mind you it's taken months for 'the penny to drop. Similar to here really...
Ps: Just spotted these photo's in the Gruaniad, decontaminating the pyramids and statues duh!
Pss: It's the level of intelligence that bothers me...

I live in hope that the official figures for Egypt are not entirely fictitious, that the majority of people are being sensible ( despite the evidence of my eyes) and that there’s some mysterious factor- as yet undiscovered by the experts - which makes the Egyptians less susceptible to the virus.
I live in hope.....
