I watched this online. Cost me £10. Waste of money.
I enjoyed the scenery....it was obviously filmed entirely in and around Luxor.....but otherwise found it tedious and pretentious .
It was confusing at times....shacking up with your Egyptian boyfriend at the Winter Palace?? What is the world coming to
Without the synopsis I’d read beforehand, I wouldn’t have made head nor tale of the story. Actually...there isn’t a story. A garbled mish mash of weird seances on the West Bank and marijuana- fuelled dancing in - I kid you not - the Winter Palace bar! The female lead is a refugee worker on vacation and obviously having something of a mental breakdown. Probably not helped by the dope or the attentions of the male egyptologist.
The unlikely couple also partake of a joint while sitting in the inner sanctum of Luxor Temple. Disgraceful
Nice to see Salima Ikram.....the only sane and believable character in an otherwise pointless bit of self-indulgent cinematography....possibly because she just plays herself.
Luxor....the film

Saw a few European visitors/ expats particularly in the scenes shot at the Marsam
I do recall an elderly chap, in the background, gawping at Salima’s luncheon table and waving!

Re: Luxor....the film
Well now, I finally got a good quality copy of the film. We watched it this evening. Having been absent from Luxor for more than a year the scenes made us feel very home sick for Luxor. The acting of the extras was, of course, rubbish and the main cast not much better with a very dodgy plot line especially with old boyfriend allowed into Winter Palace hotel room overnight etc. I think the best actor was Salima but she has probably done more in front of a camera than most of the actors.
Anyway at least the location sequences were correct (unlike Death on the Nile) It helped us reminisce, in safety.
Stay safe folks.
