Apparently some superstitious Egyptians are blaming the recent spate of disasters on this move.

‘death will come on quick wings for those who disturb the king’s peace.’
I first thought of the 2nd Suez crisis then covid popped into my head..

I just heard someone say that revenue from canal is 50 billion a week ?
Makes one wonder where all those billions go ?....... 8)

Ps: I remember once sitting in a mockup of King Tut's tomb at it's opening,
and that saying popped into my head and it was hot as hell in there and that
ruddy mosquito biting Carnarvon was shot 7 times.
Oh! and the whole room/tomb stunk of BO. That set was in the old Luxor Hotel.

Does anyone have an idea of the time for this parade? (Of course, it might not be published because it will be "on time-Egyptian time"!) Nevertheless, I too would love to watch it.

I wonder why the mummies are going to the NMEC rather than the GEM?

You’d have thought these would be star items ....and surely they aren’t going to move them again?

If you can’t catch it on TV, it’s also being shown on 2 YouTube channels as explained in this article.

According to Luxor Times, it is 5:30 Cairo time, everywhere else I have seen, it is 6:30. Very unusual!

I have to say that was a pretty impressive show!

I could have done without the Antiquities minister’s sycophancy towards Sisi Et al...but I suppose that was inevitable.

They managed some amazing dancing scenes at Giza and Deir el Bahari without slipping - which would have been easy - into Hollywood kitsch.

The NMEC looks very impressive and I’m looking forward to visiting it when next in Cairo. I gather it’s the final resting place of the royal mummies and it was a deliberate choice in order to attract tourists to both the NMEC and the GEM.

There was an article on BBC news about the event with some short clips. They certainly went to town by putting on a show for the event. We have been to the old Egyptian Museum several times but, regrettably, we are not likely to get to the new one. :( :(

Thanks for that Newcastle :up The exhibits seem to be well displayed and particularly well lit. It could have benefitted with a commentary though because so many items are quite beautiful and an explanation would have been useful.
This is the museum of Egyptian culture and includes faurly recent exhibits. Do I take it that the Tahrir museum continues to function as ancient Egypt? For some reason I was under the impression that the new museum was to replace the old one, but I confess that having not been to Egypt for nearly 10 years I am a bit out of touch........
