Addiction...

Post by Who2 »

Luckily one benefit of being trapped in London is to be able to feed a long time addiction.
Green Kent Cob Nuts.
15930
I became addicted to these when first discovering them driving around the Kent countryside
50 years ago as an Ambulance Man.

These pearls of deliciousness have to be harvested in early September before the squirrels devour them first.

Make no mistake they are not hazelnuts they are the caviar of all nuts and must be eaten when green... 8)
Ps: Mine should arrive the first week in Sept..'whoopee...

I think they are hazlenuts...but harvested early before they ripen into the more familiar brown version.

Hazel nuts, Cob nuts, and Filberts are just the fruits of different species of the same tree.
Some people confuse one for another or assume all are the same, but there are slight differences in the shape, texture, and flavour of each of the varieties.

I used to enjoy eating hazel nuts when I was younger, but developed an allergy to them years ago. That being the case, and the other varieties being less easy to purchase, I have not risked testing out all three nuts. I think it is more to do with the papery skin than the actual nut but not willing to do too much experimenting as it's something I can live without..but maybe not with.

The only thing I looked forward to in the autumn when returning to skool after the summer break was eating the hazelnuts from the trees in the school playing fields.
I would have my school shorts pockets full of them.
We have a bountiful supply of raspberries and blackberries during the summer months which is nice. Always pick the ones above waist hight though.

I had some left over sage and onion stuffing the other day, and added some nuts to it and warmed it up in the microwave.

Unbelievably great taste. 😎

It's a beautiful day today, veena great week so far here in Wales.
I'll head down to the forest at the bottom of our valley later today and see what I can forage.
