With the death of an English tourist in Morocco recently after a slight scratch from a puppy, what are your thoughts on getting a rabies jab before travelling to Egypt. As a dog lover I tend to pat and stroke some dogs and fell in love with a Jack Russell puppy last year.
I know some ex-pats work at the ACE animal centre in Luxor and in daily contact with cats and dogs. Also are rabies readily available in Luxor?

Re: Rabies
I used to impress upon our guests to not touch any animals, as we can never know what disease they could be carrying. Better safe than sorry is always my motto!

Re: Rabies
Can you get a pre-Rabies jab? I thought that it was one, or possibly a series of jabs, that you had if rabies was suspected following a scratch, cut, or bite.
Edit: For my own education and understanding, I've just been on to the NHS website to get their up to date information: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/rabies/vaccination/
Do you know if it would be easy to get the rabies shots if you were injured by a suspected rabies carrier?
It might be worth checking that out locally, to help your decision making and for peace of mind.
Edit 2: A key point from the NHS website which is low down in the information.
Important
The rabies vaccine does not fully protect everyone from rabies.
You should get medical help as soon as possible if you think you may have been exposed to rabies, even if you've been vaccinated.
Also worth noting that the Rabies vaccine is not normally free,
