Nothing new - they have been around for ages.

Are we talking about a special unit (as in KSA & Iran) whose purpose is the supervision of public morals.....or the usual busy-bodying attitude of some officers to what they consider to be inappropriate behaviour?

I've witnessed the latter....young Egyptian males in the company of foreign women being "hassled" by the tourism police.....but didn't realise there was a designated "decency police" force.

We are talking about stage performance in Cairo, not tourist police. The explanation that I have been given in English is that men who have seemed out of place, occupying the best tables, were from the "Morality Police".

I don't know what is so odd about all this. Even cities like London and Los Angeles have vice squads.

Another example of a society focusing on trivia.....whilst ignoring the surrounding mayhem.

Someone should tell them to stop hanging around in Cairo nightclubs and get down to Luxor which we're told is awash with paedophiles & gigolos.
