Two paintings by the present day Egyptian artist Farid Fadel.

I have always liked the simplicity of this one, and I'm rather keen on kites too.



This one is a familiar sight to many of us I'm sure, even if the location and men are different.

This came up on my newsfeed today. If you keep clicking on the right side of the painting you'll see about 68 of his; the carpet selling ones are sure to be in there, if you have the time/incination. Happy hunting.

As the Dr. says he was certainly a prolific artist, quite a variation in the quality of some paintings, some are very detailed and others look a bit rushed and I would love to know some of the background behind the various scenes, especially those featuring military armour. He certainly enjoyed depicting a few 'slappers' and belly dancers though.

Winged Isis has beaten me to it. I was going to select some more Jean Leon Gerome paintings to add here but now you can all see a huge selection of his work. It's interesting to me that the same characters (or the clothing) appear in a number of different paintings and I wonder if these were real people or just sets and artistic imagination and licence.

Many artists paint the same subject multiple times, e.g. Van Gogh did his "Sunflowers" about 9 (?) times I think. Or they use a basic image and re-work it from different angles or times of day, or with different elements or in different mediums.

I have drawn and painted the same subject more than once, to get a completely different result. I did a watercolour-pencil painting of Luxor Temple and a friend did it in oils; a very different result.

That's the one I painted (as per my last post)!!! You're a mind reader! It took you a year to do it, but you got there.

Definitely a bit of "artistic licence" going on there

On second thoughts.....

I suppose the south end of the colonnade could have looked something like that in the 19th century - before the extensive restoration of the temple.
