Here's a nice shot of the aurora borealis from Cumbria....wherever that is.

I've seen the aurora borealis on at least three occasions. I just don't have any photographs of the occasions.

I stayed at a cottage on the edge of the Solway Firth and we got a quite clear show, certainly more than we had expected or hoped for. On another occasion I stayed up through the night with friends in Wales. We were high up and star gazing. We were blessed with a brief view of colours dancing. Even down here in the south, there have been rare occasions when the aurora borealis has been visible and although I haven't actually seen it from here I have seen the hints of colour change in the sky.

On the other hand, I have a group of local friends who paid quite a lot of money to go on cruise and Nothern Lights experience. They got the cruise but the Northern lights barely came out to play!

“I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.”
