I would not consider 30+ young lol. The very young ones, 18/25 all work in the gogo bars, of no interest to me and above my holiday spends. The average age for a bar girl, as posted on the Pattaya Times, is 38. Which, compared to my age, is young I suppose.

I don't think the Indian Variant as any different symptoms to the original Covid-19

Now your Covid vaccinations are recorded on the NHS app (not the NHS covid app). I guess this will be useful to a degree, but would it be acceptable abroad?

I am getting very confused by all this, do you need proof that you have received the vaccine to travel or is it the test paper to show that you haven't got the virus that's required by most countries?

Different countries have different pre-travel test requirements.
Not all test centers carry out all the specific tests, and if they do fees can vary greatly (although they do seem to be coming down now).

Some forms of travel require you to have had both vaccines. For example, UK Coach Holidays and Round the Coast Cruises have now started to operate, but I understand that passengers have to have had both vaccines before they can join the holiday. Pressumably they have to provide some proof of this. Whether the little card which is filled in when yoi have your vaccine is considered like a ceftificate under these circumstances I don't know. I doubt it's done by GP letter as these are often costly, and there doesn't seem to have been an outcry about that.

Of course, my comments are only relative to what is happening in England. Other countries may be taking a different approach.

Until there is a unified decision taken worldwide about if Travel Certificates are requied, and how they are to be implemented, confusion will continue.

It will. For example Greece allows you in without pre- flight PCR, and no need to quarantine if you can prove you’ve had both jabs.

I had my second back in March but, somehow, my GP omitted to inform the NHS, so I’m in limbo while they correct my records!

For most countries ( Greece and Iceland are exceptions which come to mind) whether or not you’re vaccinated is irrelevant for entry purposes. They’re trying to cobble together some worldwide agreement.....but don’t hold your breath.

Most - possibly all - countries require that you’ve had a PCR test within 72 hours of departing your home country, and may test you again, and/or quarantine you, when you arrive. ( Currently, Egypt does not insist on this for anyone entering via Red Sea airports....testing them instead on arrival).

As Hepzibah notes, some companies in U.K. insist you’re vaccinated before travelling with them. SAGA springs to mind.

I think you’ll require the NHS app, or failing that, a doctors letter as to if and when you had your jabs. The little green card you get is too easy to forge! As noted in an earlier post, there’s been a cock up in mine...and my second jab is yet to appear on the NHS app, even though I had it back in March.

“ And from today, people in England who have both vaccine doses will be able to demonstrate their COVID vaccination status via the NHS app; those without access to the app can request a letter from the NHS proving their vaccination status by calling 119, from 17 May.”

Is there anybody living in Luxor ready to share their 'real experiences of the Covid Pandemic in Egypt ?
So far the people whom I have spoken to seem to be living a lie and in total ignorance as far as this pandemic is concerned.
Truthful and unbiased views would be welcome and a lot more useful..... 8)

Perhaps you just don't believe what people are telling you because it's not what you want to hear.
We don't hear a lot about the pandemic because for the majority of ex pats they have carried on living their lives as they would normally. No masks, no social distancing going out having a drink or a meal. Swimming pools etc no one they know has died, except for Debbie at the Lantern. She had a terminal illness anyway.
I wear my mask I social distance I admit I am scared of covid. I haven't been out so much as I would normally do. When I go to the east bank I get a taxi round now instead of catching the ferry.
I was surprised a couple of weeks ago when I attended an open air event at Little Gezira, everyone but me was greeted with a kiss and a hug. Not because of my unpopularity but my body language must have shown that I didn't think it was appropriate. What the hell is going on I thought.
I have friends here that travel frequently to Hurghada and Cairo. They wear masks whilst doing so because they have to, not because it's the right thing to do. None of whom have become ill.
Numbers of infections according to local statistics continue to rise but who cares. If you get it you get it seems to be the rule, just your bad luck.
Sometimes I do wonder if I am being over sensitive to the dangers because to be honest no one else seems to care.
If people are telling you that you should return then that's up to you whether you listen or not. You do what you think will keep you safe and happy.

In March 2020 I took a repatriation flight from Luxor back to UK because I thought that I would be safer in UK than here in Egypt.

However after 6 months and two lock downs I felt decidedly unsafe from the Virus in UK – especially as friends in Luxor were telling me it was safer here.

I flew back to Luxor in October via Hurghada on an Easyjet flight which only had 23 passengers onboard – I felt quite safe on the plane and also at Hurghada Airport.

Here in Luxor (I live on the East Bank) since October I have been able to go about my normal business but I have been observing mask wearing, social distancing and regular handwashing. I have avoided hugging kissing and handshaking. Many of the Locals do not share the precautions that I take.

For almost every weekend since December I have been staying at the Winter Palace Hotel which has been tremendous value for money (on average £25 per night bed and breakfast). The staff there are all taking the necessary precautions including the wearing of disposable gloves. It made a pleasant change from living in my apartment, especially as I was unable to travel from Luxor to my usual far flung destinations

From what I hear from my family in UK it seems that I have been able to live almost a normal life here in Luxor with the added comfort of a warm climate whereas they have had lockdowns, closures and a wet and miserable climate.

Having said all that I am returning to UK on 3 June because the temperature has been averaging about 40c everyday for the last month and I am finding that it is too hot to go out in the day time and I don’t want to be confined to my home and it is too hot to sit by the pool at the Winter Palace.

Lockdowns seem to be easing in UK and although I will need three PCR tests and quarantine for 10 days I am looking forward to returning to my second home (to make sure it is still there!) and to spend some time with my family.

I hope to return to Luxor in September

@chris

Out of interest, how are you getting back to UK....via Cairo ( a fairly sure route) or Hurghada ( hoping EasyJet don’t cancel)
