Well I am presently without camera apart from my little compact.

Sold my Fuji bridge camera in 3 days on ebay, posted it to the buyer today, but the new one is a bit slow arriving...chased them up and hope to get it Wednesday.

I am still waiting for the new Nikon Hope I haven't chosen a dodgy dealer just to save a few quid.

Meanwhile may I introduce something new to discuss?

To kick off here is a picture, one of many, taken around the Cateract at Aswan. I am not suggesting this is a good picture, quite the contrary it has areas that are too blank. I wondered how it might revert to B & W.
What do you think???

I think changing coloured pics to b/w brings a different atmosphere to the pic altog........I often prefer b/w to colour.

I cant find the orginal colour to my pic below, in this scene I wanted to capture both the foreground with footprints & the background cloud formation.......I did a bit of twinking using the cloan healing to remove some marks & lamposts & enhanced the b/w..........I really like this pic & so did my tutor at college.

Only prob Kiya, we can't see them, just a red cross????????

And just noticed all your pics from last Thursday have red crosses too??????

They are all back.....probably this pesky Google Chrome, it does some funny things sometimes.

Lovely sky Kiya, and the increased contrast has darkened the sky and the foreground to much improve the picture

I can see all the pics but a couple of weeks ago all I could see was white boxes with a cross in it - OK now though.

GD I do prefer your picture in black and white and I think you need contrast in a black and white photo to give it more depth. I like the way the river meanders and leads your eye into the photo. I would say that there's a lot of detail in the photo such as the craggy rocks, leaves on the trees and the shadows and ripples in the water - and then theres' the hills in the background. I think sometimes black and white works best when the picture is really simple. If it was my photo I would perhaps crop in and make the craggy rock and it's reflection more of the focus.

Glad you mentioned 'focus' Ashtree, I used this one because in my opinion it lacks any focus....I DO agree with you. Perhaps if some of the background is cropped out, the striking rock formation would make the picture.

No Grandad, it does it on all browsers, there seesm to be some latency somewhere in the Ether... (probably SQL based no doubt)

I still think that the celluloid gave a greater definition and atmosphere in black and white than digital B&W ?
