How much did you pay for your orfi?

Post by PRchick »

OK let's see what the going rate for an orfi is and if there is any "standard" cost. You don't have to post your name, just participate in the poll if you've ever paid for an orfi contract. Amounts are given in Egyptian pounds so we're all talking the same numbers.

Come on. Don't be shy. You know you want to share the misery.

Less than half than the smallest amount  And no misery to share really, was happy with the orfi, and now, that the relationship sadly has ended, one is thanking God that the plans of getting married at the embassy never worked out. Would have made the divorce so much more difficult.

I think that depends if its court registered, for a normal paper (not court registered) you can get a small time lawyer to do one for you for about 50LE - im sure the court registered is about 300le now.

We had the green one. I don't know the exact price but I paid 100 of what it cost. :)

We had a court one which was done in the Lawyers office with two witnessess present and I was asked all the right questions and I have no idea how much it cost as Elomda paid for it and I didnt think it polite to ask! He also paid for my 6 months visa at the Passport office to that I needed so the lawyer could put it through the court and act on my behalf with a signed power of attorney which he also paid for!

Ah but, Keefy, we aren't asking what the real cost is. We're asking what the western partner paid for the paper. I'm sure you are correct but I doubt if that is what most western women pay. I could be wrong.

The cost of the orfi is not just the money spent on the piece of paper...

I have to say the poll pisses me off a bit

I DID get an orfi, but even now, more than four years later, I just can't see how that was stupid. :P

 I was one of them who got an orfie, did not pay for it and did not know it was an orfie...
I was meeting my ex at the airport at Hurgada and he brought me by car to Luxor. The days before i left he asked me for the passport number and all the information needed... he said he gonna get a special paper that gonna be improved by court for me to escort me from Hurgada to Luxor.. and even for us to walk together and stay in the same flat... stubborn as i am i was allready grumphy and a bit naive... i have never been in egypt and never been with an egyptian person before this... i am a strongheaded woman and said... nobody gonna tell me who i gonna walk beside or stay with.. if they say something i tell them off.. anyway to be on the safe side and get from Hurgada and Luxor i agreed to give the passport number away... when i came to egypt, he allready had a big green paper with a lot of stamps on... they stoped us several times after the way and they both checked the green paper and my passport... and even a couple of times going round in luxor... they also took a copy of my passport, because they said the landlord would need it if the tourist police would come and ask who was in the flat...
i did not sign anything or paid for the paper... but after reading this forum everyone refering to this big green paper as an orfie marriage paper... anyway... i am not with that man anymore... i am now with a man in sweden and we are gonna marry in june..

We were also often stopped by the TP and asked to show evidence of our relationship.

Is it now a badge of honor to have been stopped by the tourist police?

That was not what I meant . But that I had good use of the paper and was happy to have it during my four year long relationship. We were stopped numerous times on the corniche and in the bazaar.
