Am currently immersed in this excellent book by Paul Strathern (Pub: Vintage) ISBN 9781844139170.
Am learning fascinating stuff about Egypt in the time of the Mamelukes, the French Revolution and the up-and-coming young Boney.
It's interesting to compare life in Egypt then and now (sadly some things never change).
Will try his "The Medici: Godfathers of the Renaissance" next.

Think I'm mixed up - I read Napoleon's Pyramids and loved it. Its fiction but based on the period when Napoleon came to Egypt as a young man. Sorry for confusing everyone, including myself.

No - it is an excellent book, full of intriguing detail - I'm waiting for the sequel to be published.

General Desaix fought a final battle against what was left of the Mameluks near Philae, and ordered a commerative graffito to be carved on Philae temple wall.



A bit difficult to read though!
