Can you help me with a little research for a book.

I need names to use in a novel, and want muslim boys and girls names, both the most common ones and other.

Could you list the names you know of, both girls and boys names so I won't have to name everyone in the story Ahmed and Leylah?

I met my first Ragab this time in Luxor, I thought that was an unusual name but have been told since there are a few about. I have never met another one though.

I think so too Good name. There are a few pages on the net listing muslim names, but those are name from all over the muslim world, impossible to know which ones are used in Luxor/ Egypt.

Male - Zain, Hassan, Anter, Esmaiel, Asem, Ashraf.

Female - Miram, Noor, Hodda, Saffa, Rania

I know 2 Ragab's a forum members husband and the other one I have know for 12 years.

You forgot Ali, Zahi, Aida, Asas, to name but a few

Female names are harder as you rarely meet the ladies to be formally introduced. The Female ones I remember are: Afaf, Jahan, Shahan, Shams, Asmat, Esma, Mona, Neffeesa There are a lot of Abdu variations for men as in Abdurokhman, Abduafees, Abduateef, also Shahad, Emir, Amir, Arafa, Shoogay, Shamrook, Mustafa, Khaled, Tayer, Tarik, Ahmed is usually followed by another name to distinguish it from the masses as in Ahmed Habdee. My mind has gone blank now!

There is a Mahrous who is the only one ive ever come ac ross. He has a sister called Mahrousa, also a sister called Doha.

Another Moslem Female not yet mentioned is Oboor

Female names:

Apologies in advance for being pedantic, but there are a couple of Coptic names in this thread, no problem if the book just needs Egyptian names, but if they have to particularly be Muslim then just to give you the heads up.

Many I know have already been listed, but I don't think any of these have been mentioned:

Female: Amal, Azma, Nabila, Sowsan, Souhir, Shayma, Nabowya, Tifnah, Boosy, Marwa, Ghada, Rajah.

Male: Hamada, Moses, Rafat, Hashem, Ali, Ramy, Meher.

When in doubt, I always use Mohammed there's an 87% chance of being correct......

Yeah I was going to say that not all these names are definitely Muslim. Some names are used by both groups like Adel and Ashraf but Abanob (if that is what Jane meant by Abanoud) is definitely a Coptic name. Mariam and Noor are also names frequently used by female Copts. These were the only ones which struck me but I will have another look through the lists!
