I was hoping Horus that you'd know the name of this little guy. He (or she) is super cute, quite flighty, hard to photograph as quite active. Anybody know the name of this bird? (I've been calling him Joe) ;);)

Looks like a red crested cardinal possibly from Hawaii, aka Brazilian cardinal

Brian I was thinking "cardinal" myself just cause it had that look but that is about as far as I ever got. Definitely super active and chipper. I also thought he might have just 'gotten away' from somebody.

I'm still trying to capture some bluejays but soon as I come out with the camera they disappear FAST too. Love watching them. They're always squabbling and squawking and making a fuss about something.

Sorry LLL, only just spotted this one!
Definately a Red Breasted Cardinal as Brian has already said :) native to South America and they are commonly and legally kept in American aviaries, so it is probably an escapee ;)

ahhh - well haven't seen him here since I snapped his photo. Guess he is camera shy. I was figuring 'cardinal' but the ones here are fairly rare and mostly all red. His head crest was like a blue jay but he was way too small for one of those. Am guessing you're correct - escapee and probably just passing through. Thanks muchly!!! :):):)
