What tinned foods do you regularly stock in your cupboards, and are an absolute "necessity" ?

Mine are.........tomatoes,lentils, organic pea soup, baked beans, chick peas, kidney beans, apricots,Prunes, and I seem to have a few tins of coconut milk(must make some more Thai curries!)
If I could only stock ONE it would have to be tomatoes. :)
Ooooh yes...forgot to add, I do have a few tins of Heinz tomato soup :P great on a cold winter day :D

Couldn't cope without tinned tomatoes, whole and chopped. I don't bother to buy the one with herbs added as I can add my own herbs. The "fresh" toms sold here out of season don't taste of anything at all. Chickpeas and kidney beans follow a close second. Not being a vegetarian my favourite winter warmer is oxtail soup with cheesy garlic bread :)

Yes teddy boy.......they are great instead of mashed potatoes ...and I add them to all kinds of dishes, salads Soups etc they save time also when in a dash :)

Although I cannot imagine ANYTHING which would compare with mashed potatoes, I'm still intrigued. So, are they cooked, or prepared in some way? Surely they aren't just like they are when they come in a bag?

You are quite right there is nothing to compare with a smooth creamy mashed potato :P But I find tinned lentils mashed with some oil make a good substitute ......sometimes I add sweet potato for a change.
The tinned lentils are already cooked and just need to be stood in boiling water to heat them up (or a quick "blitz"in the microwave) :)

Hehe  Don't give me ideas!
Extra virgin olive actually or castrol GX whichever I have to hand
not baby oil however as that has other uses............. ;)

I use a blended baby oil - chilli oil, black pepper oil and nut oil - drizzled over the baby as it is slowly turned on the BBQ.

I'm now envisaging BB's beard (black and untamed) running and claggy with fat from those babies. Not a pleasant thought!

Extra virgin olive oil sounds like a good idea, but it is hard enough finding virgins in the first place without looking for an extra one.
