I presume the man was Egyptian, which shouldn't matter, but I know some people will dismiss it for that reason.

You could well be right, but there isn't much information for people to dismiss or not dismiss, just sketchy details in a tweet about a letter. Even "Murdered" in the headline would be a presumption based on that message!

I thought about it but he was just a teacher, not a vice principal.

You need to read the article properly.

Jean-Francois Pelland, of Montreal, was the vice-principal at the British Columbia Canadian International School in Cairo, Egypt

That looks like the case; Mr Pelland's tragic death was reported on the forum earlier this month.

So, just to recap, the person who died so tragically was not actually a tourist as he was working in Egypt. He was caught in cross fire due to a tribal dispute in a town well north of Luxor. That would make it manslaughter not murder.

I think that rounds it up nicely BB! It happened in or near Qena if memory serves me right, an hours drive north of Luxor, and he was in a coach en-route to Aswan. So the only connection to Luxor is that he actually died or was pronounced dead in the International Hospital at Luxor.

Why re-open a thread inactive for three days just to minimise the tragic death of this young man. He was a foreigner working and living in Egypt visiting the less well known temples as I have often heard you describe doing yourself BB. What comfort is to be found in reframing the information contained in the article cited by KJB? On a par with the famous expat selling "safe Luxor" on youtube. At least she has the excuse of naked self interest.

I do not think BB meant any disrespect to the family of the young man, I certainly did not. The dig was at the miss-information in the original and subsequent posts and at the derogatorily presumptive tone.

Seems the facts are that a young man, a foreigner, was tragically killed in Egypt. Whichever way you put it it's a pretty **** thing go happen :(
I don't have a plan......so nothing can go wrong!

I would agree with Morgita. Why is it necessary to have "a dig" at the mis-information – even to the extent of quibbling over a visitor not being a tourist – when GD's headline was rebutted three days ago?

I'm concerned by some of the misinformation. Originally the Canadian was in a car going to Abydos, but in the latest report they are in a coach going to Aswan.

Either way it is a tragic loss of life, but one of these two stories must be wrong.

From what I could work out from the earlier incident, the incident happened on the North bank of the Nile, some 10 miles West of Qena, in the direction of Nag Hammadi.
