Pancakes - Do you prefer savoury or sweet pancakes? What's your favourite filling?

Didn't you once threw a pancake party and made dishes of all sorts of stuffed savory pancakes - I seem to remember you telling me the ones filled with a tuna filling and a creamy cucumber sauce were the favorite.

I make them often and love just a bit of sugar and lots of lemon juice, sweet and sour........... mmmm yummy. The other half took a bit of convincing to taste them, usually refusing to eat anything that his mother hadn't cooked for him before, but now he is hooked and will eat 2 or 3 frying pan sized pancakes with lots of sugar. Maybe I will try some golden syrup for him, although the thought of that for me is yuk, much too sweet

Wiz - there is nothing wrong with your memory. I did indeed throw a pancake party. I made an assortment of savoury fillings - including minced beef, tuna and sweetcorn, chicken and mushroom, ham and cheese, and a vegetarian option too. I also offered a selection of additional sauces too including a cucumber one.

When I was growing up mum would make pancakes on Shrove Tuesday and we would have them with sugar and lemon juice or golden syrup. At other times we'd get home from school and she'd made them with a minced beef filling for us - yummy.

My sister makes them in the form of crepes, only last week we enjoyed some with caramalised apples, ice cream and cinnamon, we also had a drizzle of Maple Syrup (Not Available in Luxor) but readily available in Cairo and the Red Sea Resorts or where there is a Carefours Supermarket. Doubt there will ever be a Carefours in Luxor, they have a tendancy to open where there are Tourist Markets. T in C!!!!!

My sister also has an electric Waffle maker and makes somme exquisit Belgian and French Fillycream Waffles, again served with a tropical fruit, Ice Cream and alike.

They also have a Pharoah Dog that loves Pancakes and it can be seen on Youtube under the heading Pancake loving Dog.
