Court gives 21 death sentence in Port Said stadium attack on football fans.

Egypt’s court slams 21 with death sentence in a long-anticipated verdict in the Port Said football match trial.

A verdict against the remaining 52 defendants, accused of attacking and killing Ahly fans, is adjourned to 9 March.

The public prosecutor submitted new evidence that would require deeper investigations.

Seventy-three defendants, including nine security officials, three Masry football club officials and a number of fans were held on trial for their suspected role in the disaster that left at least 71 member of Ultras Ahlawy dead.

The news of the verdict were received with celebration and fireworks by members of Ultras Ahlawy protesting by the team's club in Zamalek.

However, in Port Said the families of defendants are are now attempting to break into the prison after angrily attacking surrounding cars, including that of one of Ahram's reporters.

Notably, none of the defendants that were given the death sentence on Saturday are members of the police.

Courts have a strong pattern of acquittals of police officers accused of violence throughout the past two years since the revolution broke out in January 2011.

It gets no better.
The comments are worth noting, just to get the general feeling about this.

In all cases such as this, justice has to be seen to be served. The only problem I can see, this being Egypt, is that they could be left hanging around for some time.
