Leading Egyptian ISP company says it has repaired damage to undersea cable that had led to weekend drop in broadband speeds countrywide.
TE Data, Egypt's largest internet service provider, announced on Sunday that it had repaired the damage to submarine cables that had caused a drop in internet broadband speeds since Friday.
According to a company statement on Sunday, the internet nationwide is now working at optimal efficiency and normal speeds.
TE Data had earlier announced that one of its international submarine cables had sustained damage that had affected the speed of online services across the country.
Large numbers of Egyptian internet subscribers had reported connection difficulties or slow speeds over the weekend as a result of the reported damage.

Do you have a router Barry ?
If so, it may be worth turning it off for half an hour or so, that way you will get a new session. (hopefully faster )
Your old session may still be locked in at the old speed..

Generally the little power cuts do that for me BM

I do restart the whole system each day anyway.

I know what you mean now
Dusak, im using a vodafone dongle at the moment and the speeds are very good, yet sometimes it takes ages to open a page (not just on Luxor4u), the other thing I have found is that from time to time it keeps changing the IP, which causes the forum to log you out

Hopefully things will be better soon. Twice in a week!
"Internet services in Egypt have been disrupted by damage to an undersea cable, Link Dot Net boss Waseem Arsani has told Ahram Online.
The technical damage could disrupt Egypt's internet services by almost 50 percent, Arsani added. Internet services were disrupted nationwide on Friday due to damage to international undersea cables but the service was back to normal by Sunday.
Internet services will gradually recover during the afternoon and be back to normal by the end of the day, a source at Telecom Egypt has told state news agency MENA. Submarine cable operator SEACOM has confirmed the SMW4 cable was damaged off the coast of Egypt.

It seems that it may not have been accidental damage after all!
Egyptian navy captures divers trying to cut undersea internet cables
Telecom Egypt connections targeted for termination
A spokesman for the Egyptian military has reported that three scuba divers have been arrested in the Mediterranean as they tried to cut a submarine data cable owned by local telco Telecom Egypt.
Col. Ahmed Mohammed Ali said on his Facebook page that the three men had been caught diving from an inflatable dinghy as they worked underwater to try and cut the cable at a point just north of the port city of Alexandria, AP reports. Alexandria is the main entry point for the multiple submarine cables that bring internet connectivity to Egypt.
Egyptian internet users have been suffering patchy speeds for the last week, but telecoms officials had been blaming this on damage to the cable caused by shipping. It now seems that accidental damage may not have been the cause.
No reason for the attempt was given and the identities of those under arrest have not been released as yet. They now face interrogation as to their motivation.
The cable in question has been named as the South East Asia Middle East Western Europe 4 (SEA-ME-WE 4), the same line that was damaged in 2008 by a ship's anchor. That outage cut traffic to the country by 75 per cent and had knock-on effects in the Middle East and India.
Communications Minister Atef Helmy told the Turkish Anadolu news agency on Wednesday that the "internet crisis will be resolved in 20 hours," adding, "There will be gradual improvement in the service within the coming hours."

As usual that statement was all PR speak by a politician who has no clue how long it will take to lift and re-splice the cable
Service is even worse today with many outages and very low bandwidth.

I'm glad that you found out the reason that you have to keep logging on as me being a complete computer thicko thought that it was because some members had made me a foe so I had to re-log on to read the post. I now most humbly apologize to those members that my confused mind considered them to be my foe's. All 3,721 of them.
