HELP! Been having loads of problems for about 24hrs with a mini screen popping up KERNELBASE.dll
I press the 'Report' button but I'm still getting this.
I've switched off and restarted computer - but that didn't cure it (always a good 1st start for me!
I've carried out a full scan but that doesn't seem to have shown up any problems.
I've done a clean up of Cookies etc but that doesn't seem to have helped either.

Is anyone else having problems with this KERNELBASE.dll ?
Does anyone know how I can get rid of the problem?

Most of my programmes are on IE - and that is where I seem to be having this problem (eg when I open Luxor4U, Facebook, Yahoo.)

Please - I need the help of you techies out there.

Can you log in as a different user Hepzibah ?
If you do not have another user login, go into the Control Panel and create another user (preferably make them an Administrator)
Now log in as that new user and see if the problems occur still.

If the problems do not occur, then we have the problem fixed and need to get your files across to the new user account.

If the problem persistsas the new user, see if you can capture the error message, as information is your friend when fixing problems, and post the error message.

I have a feeling that your profile is corrupt, and if creating and logging in as the new user fixes the problem, then I will tell you how to move all your documents and pictures over to the new user account, then rename the acounts..

In The absense of our Hepzibah, that being her last post I wonder if her computer has got a whole lot worse... :tk

After a litle more investigation, I discovered that Windows Automatic Updates from Tuesday this week had a rogue patch file. that it will have installed.

April's MS13-036 update (Described inApril's MS13-036 update (Described in KB2823324 as an update to the ntfs.sys file) is causing widespread problems for some people.

If you have this patch, then you need to uninstall it, from Control Panel / Programs and Features, snd tick the box "Show Windows Updates".
Select the patch with this number, KB28233 and remove it..
.

.

Thank God for Linux.

Thanks for the help so far and sorry for my delay in responding. I was just so frustrated by it all last yesterday I just had to switch off and walk away or I'd have got into deeper trouble!

Bullet Magnet,

I tried your step 1 first of changing user/admin - alas still had the problem.

I've since tried to find the code you mentioned but it's not in my updates list.

Trying to work out how to get the actual mini window info over here. Will post as soon as I can. In the meantime I really do appreciate the help so far.

IF the problems are with Internet explorer, then there may be a faulty or rogue add on installed.
I found this on Mirosofts help page regarding Internet Explorer..

To see the add-ons installed in Internet Explorer 9
To turn add-ons on or off in Internet Explorer

Open Internet Explorer

Click the Tools button Tools button, and then click Manage add-ons. ( B.M Note, You may need to press the ALT key to see this menu appear)

Under Show, click All add-ons.

Click an add-on, and then do one of the following:

To make the add-on available for use in the browser, click Enable.

To turn the add-on off so it can't be used in the browser, click Disable.

Repeat step 4 for each add-on that you want to turn on or off. When you're finished, click Close.

Just turn the add ons off, and then re enable them one by one, until the fault appears. Then hopefully you can tell me which add on causes the problem and we may find a fix from there..

Now I have more information from you I will keep investiagting... :sl:

Hmmm, this looks like a toolbar that has installed itself..

I cant exactly remeber how to turn them off, but if you right mouse click near where you type in the loaction you want to go to ( address bar) I am sure the menu offers an option on Toolbars, and you can just disable ALL the toolbars.. You should not need any toolbars anyway. they can mess with Internet Explorer in a non too postive way.. :x

Thanks again Bullet Magnet. You are helping greatly - I would not/do not have a clue about these things or where to begin looking! (But then you know that!)

I'm 99% sure that the ptoblem lies with a toolbar, given those errors you are getting.

Go back to teh control panel, Programs and Features and uninstall any toolbars you have.
Also, check the Start menu and all the programs and makes sure there are no toolbars hidden away in there, if there are, there should be an uninstall option, so you can get rid of any residing there.

Although this will not fix the Internet Explorer problem, you could go here and install FireFox Web Browser.
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/
Use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer until we can solve this issue...

I'd change to Chrome!

I was going to mention Chrome as well, but it does knit very closely with Internet Explorer and may inherit the problem Hepzibah has.
Chrome is very good on slow connections, as it has a very hefty cache which makes it appear fast..

I do have Chrome installed already and am now moving my stuff over - but I think it's going to take me a long time. Is there a quick and simple way to make Chrome my default with all my files there or do I have to keep opening and adding?

Should add - I'm only moving things over fairly slowly as I don't want to move the problem over to Chrome too and if I do it slowly and it does appear I'll have a clue as to where the root of the problem lies (I think!)

Not an option.
Actually not even a consideration - unless someone gave one to me!
