PM-ing, Messaging, Emailing

OK LLL I'm trying to find the cause, it might take sometime though, there is a lot of code to go through. If anyone else is suffering the same problem please let me know

OK I will do more checking into it, We did have a permssions problem on Egypt4u where some could see photos and other could not (which I sorted in the end), so im wondering if its a similar bug, I hope Winged Isis posts to let us know if she is having the same problem now or not

Yes. Your advice was useless to non-techy me, as I had no idea what you meant, as I explained. Yet, as non-techy as I am, logically I couldn't, wouldn't and still don't believe it was at my end when I had no trouble pm-ing you on the gold side, or with any of the hundreds of other things I access and do on the internet and this forum, only sending and receiving pm-s on this forum. I may be ignorant, but I'm not stupid. I rest my case, m'lud.

Sent a PM ok to LLL and WI with no problems (no warnings to say there is a problem) let me know if you have recieved anything

Notification chime only. Still no Messages button on the bar, no pm button beside avatars.

Things do go wrong with forums which might affect everyone or just a few, trying to find out what is causing it, is the problem, you have to go down every road to try and find the cause, even if that means you trying a different browser etc to see if it's at your end first cause only 2 have now brought up the problem, so its not a general bug that is affecting everyone.

I'm not sure if it was LLL or Grandad that was having problems viewing some (not all) pictures in posts on Egypt4u, when it only affects a couple of members it hard to find the cause, on most occasions it's normaly a problem at their end.

BTW im glad you posted cause I thought the problem was either fixed for you, or worse still that you was not able to post

It was me who couldn't view photos on E4U but you did get it fixed! WHY I even noticed the PM thingy was missing is that I thought I heard the chime of having a message but when I went to look - no chime, no message and not even a button! WOW!!

Glad you're on it Keefy I have deleted cookies, got rid of all unwanted/old files and signed in with a different browser but nada....thanks for your efforts to fix this (also good to know it isn't just ME who has this problemo)

I don't pretend to understand the workings of the internet, I just have to hope and pray it works when I press a button. As I said my notifications are back, but this morning I decided to send a couple of e-mails to the UK and my contacts box was empty. Just says that I have no contacts yet. Also on FB, when I can access it, a lot of folk are complaining that their messaging system is all to cock. Now and again I have had ''no permission'' to view some photo's, but this is rare. Also when I click my like button on a posters post a message appears that says the action failed as I was not authorized to do the action. At the bottom of this small box there is a zero. Means nothing to me, but seems to rectify its self when I move to a new page. But at the end of the day we all appreciate what you are doing.

Any progress on getting the ability to PM other members back? I still do not have the icon/button etc in place but just wondering if any headway has been made as to why suddenly the ability to PM each other is gone???

No sorry LLL, Ive tested your's and WI account and all seems to be working fine (even the buttons are working, so its back to the drawing board.

Even more problems for me. Yesterday my user name and password disappeared so had to get a new one issued, this morning I opened L4U as usual from my bookmarks and only got a kaleidoscope of mixed up numbers and colours so had to log on via Google. Now when I attempt to open a new topic I keep getting a sever error message so have to keep back and forwards clicking to open it.

Hmm think the 'server error' may be more general as I use Chrome for L4U and have been getting 'page not found' and 'server error' a few times the last few days - and it's happening when I am actually using the site, not when I am opening it up!

I have received messages now thank you Keefy, and the buttons are back, but no warning sound, and yes, my sound is switched on. In the past, I have found this is very slow to go off, and have missed messages as I quickly go to read posts. Once you get it back, maybe see if it can be speeded up, please? I am about to answer to see if that will work.
