And I wonder which expat will be the first to be seen preening themselves in front of the lens as the pictures are transmitted world wide?

Pity it doesn't work! There has been a webcam at the Sheraton, Luxor, for ages too.

Web cams are so...last millennium. I remember looking at web cams of distant places back in 1998 and it was a cool and cutting edge thing then, but in 2013?

Well I am stuck here at moment, should have been in Luxor now, but recovering from Meningitis, then Wednesday having my Cataracts operated on so no flying for 2 weeks after that!
Seeing these images, even though they are not Luxor, they make me feel homesick. It is cold here and blowing a hooley, and I would love to be sat outside partaking of a nice coffee and a "cooked by someone else" Meal!

Only activity I saw in Sheraton in April 2013 was a big RAT running across the terrace!

I agree, except for the "inviting" bit.
What Luxor needs is live webcams at the main websites and maybe on the cornice, with the option for the viewer to rotate them horizontally.
I ponder what it would cost to provide a Wi-Fi access point, and maybe a webcam, at the RRH (Rammeseum Rest House). I would guess that the camera would be a non-starter for fear of picturing the locals drinking, but a Wi-Fi should be self-funding.
If someone can give me the local price to set it up I will investigate the funding.

Some would turn up for the opening of a kitkat so it wouldn't take long to find out

Forget the Ram Rest Hse they would have broken it within the week.
For years Iv'e been thinking of placing a long-range HD camera on my dome. I could upload 24/7 dirt cheap.
I started with the idea of a personal camera obscurer, any live web cam needs attention and action else it becomes a 'dead-feed as opposed to a 'live-feed.
To sustain such a venture, one needs action and a sponsor, else what's the point ? You want to look at my view,
Why ?, where's the 'angle ?...ideas need action, action needs intent, intent on what ?........
"It's dead in the water b4 it even got started, but hey' any idea is worth dwelling upon...for what it's worth'

You could take a leaf out of PyramidCam's book,Doctor - set up your webcam, and get advertising to pay for it! But to get a truer picture of Luxor, maybe the committee could prevail upon Google to bring their StreetView cameras here! http://www.pyramidcam.com/
