Three Egyptian universities have been included in the Times Higher Education BRICS and Emerging Economies top one hundred list.

Alexandria University (93), Cairo University (95) and Mansoura University (97) appeared in the recently published list.

The ranking, supported by Thomson Reuters, encompasses institutions in states with growing economies, including the BRICS states of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

China's Peking and Tsinghuam, South Africa's University of Cape Town, Taiwan's National Taiwan University, and Turkey's Boğaziçi University were the top five.

The selection criteria were based on teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

After the rioting yesterday at the university's I doubt that the rankings will be so high now. The pro Morsi demonstrators seen intent on destroying the very institutions that can give them a better future. But then again, that was Morsi's intentions, to destroy the future of this country so I guess you could say they are following their fallen leaders program.
