Now, I do a variation on everybody else's recipes. 'eau naturalment….
Stage 1.
Acquire a classic earthenware mulling pot. 20le. capacity 4 litres.
12370
1 bottle schweppes or similar Apple Juiice.
10 litres Omar Kayam or Obelisk Red Wine .
Apples
Oranges
Lemons
Plums
Strawberries.
Dried Mango.
Dried Apricots.
Sugar any sort.
Strawberry jam
half bottle white Sherherazade.
star anise
cloves
Cinnamon sticks
vanilla powder
bay leaves.
toasted almonds

So bung everything put in a plastic container using only 2 bottles of the red. Refrigerate and let steep overnight.
Chopping up the fruit first obviously...
Leaving out the apple juice bay leaves and sugar.
Drink glass of miester.
Pour a qtr bottle red into Mulling Jar along with sugar bay leaves and orange strips, low heat to infuse the MJ. And infuse the room with nice smells.
Time rolls on………….tick tock…..tick…tomorrow.
Pour more sugar and strain out all the stuff in the wine,
Bung it all into the Mulling Jar patent pending and create a syrup along with the sugar.
Then bung in a couple of bottles of red and keep nice and warm and offer to any passing guests, for the next week or so.' inshaala!
Anybody that say's they don't drink alcohol just water it down for them with the apple juice.
The reason you don't boil the wine is your burn off the alcoholic content which is not what it's about
If any body brings brandy or stuff around like tawny port Cointreau just bung it in, it just gets better..Happy Xmas ….
Ps: 'Smokin Bishop.. made with cider is always an alternative deadly, but the healthy option…
Mrs Beatons Top Tip Xmas Present : Buy me a wooden soup ladle..

I see this was posted on December 23rd. I'm not sure what was in the recipe (sound like one of the Baldwin sisters from the Waltons) by January 1st, but whatever it was, it certainly helped keep my sore throat under control. Could do with a mug full of it now but will have to make do with hot Ribena.

Get some Fruit Pastells for your sore throat Hepzibah..
Chew the first one as normal, swallowing occasionally.
Chew the next one more slowly, and as you swallow, the pastell coats your throat and the discomfort is gone.. :up

Do they still make fruit pastilles? I've not seen any in years. I'll have to look out for some next time I'm in town.

I bought some honey at the El Sheib monastery and that has helped. I'd much rather use honey on it's own or in e.g a ginger and lemon tea then waste my money on all the cough syrups that are around.

Honey is the best.. :up
They still do fruit Pastell's, Hepzibah. Great for soothing the throat, keep you going through the day.
Honey is a great healer though. Nice on a thick slab of toast as well.. Though I doubt you will want to take it like that in your condition... :cg

Cough Syrup's are a rip off, and those bloody Strepsil's are like battery acid... :td
