Today I got sold 400 Chinese 'fake Cleopatras from the Government cigarette shop, so beware they (your employees) are stealing from the Egyptian people and from Field Marshall Sisi.
So, please go and 'nick them, because next week I'm going to give them some right sh** sorry stick….

Not sure what the Dr means here by government cigarette shop here, but there was a wholesale place, that was on the present day main square in Luxor, that opened three times a week, early in the mornings only, where all the retailers got their supply, though it certainly was not run by the government. Obviously this company still exist, though no longer in that place.
With regards to that new 'Duty Free Place', towards the Movenpick Road, we'll l think most of us know they are all a set of crooks who work in it. The whole lot of them are the same gang that worked in the one that was behind the Emillio Hotel. When that set up moved to Karnack, some will remember Cairo sent down a woman to keep an eye on things, even though she had more than a look of Eva Browne about her, at least we started getting whiskey at a fair price. However they managed to get rid of her, perhaps poisoned, who know, then the old games started again.
On my last visit to Luxor, this motley crew I noticed, have set up residency in this present place, l take it, Karnack has been closed down. Their game with booze, e.g. whisky is that the price tag for Johnny Walker Red, which they never have, gets moved to a very cheap band. As for Black Label, that price is through the roof, but they know it always sells, especially when a tourist brings with them an Egyptian 'friend'.
It's far easier these days to buy the stuff at the airport from EgyptAir Duty Free, they don't even cheat you on the exchange rate, and what is more, they even give you a receipt,.......which as most of us know, is a novelty in its self.

The DF at Luxor Airport last April was not counting litres correctly. The Johnny Walker Red Label was in 2 litre bottles rather than the expected 1 litre size. I wondered why my bag was so heavy on the way out!
I have no complaints about any of the DF shops except that they carry insufficient stock and are too expensive.
Hello, returning to Luxor for first time in 5 years in Jan and flying direct from UK. Have been asked to bring back some cigarettes for my friend. Can anyone confirm that Benson and Hedges (gold box)...
