Summary
Still current at: 19 February 2014
Updated: 19 February 2014
Latest update - the FCO advise against all but essential travel to South Sinai, with the exception of the area within the Sharm el Sheikh perimeter barrier

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all travel to:

the Governorate of North Sinai due to the significant increase in criminal activity and recent terrorist attacks on police and security forces that have resulted in deaths
The FCO advise against all but essential travel to:

the Governorates of Beni Suef, Minya, Asyut and Sohag
the Governorate of South Sinai, with the exception of the area within the Sharm el Sheikh perimeter barrier, which includes the airport and the areas of Sharm el Maya, Hadaba, Naama Bay, Sharks Bay and Nabq
Enhanced security measures are in place to protect the Sharm el Sheikh resort areas. Egyptian military are situated in Sharm el Sheikh international airport, at check points around the perimeter of Sharm el Sheikh and throughout the South Sinai Governorate. So, I can go to Sharm next week,, :tk

This sounds very much like the FCO and Egyptian Government are working together on these travel bans.
I assume they must protect the most valuable Egyptian asset in Sinai.. Sharm el-Sheikh. :up

:tk Well let's put it this way. As of today's information you can go to Sharm next week - but don't you dare try to go outside the barrier.

Whether you can go to Sharm next week is another matter - but highly likely! ;)

So St. Catherine's is now off the tourist route. No need to buy a visa in Sharm!

IF I were a so called Terrorist, I too would pick an isolated spot in which to carry out these atrocities. Less chance of being caught. :cg
Of course, I could also make a phone call and say I was responsible for an atrocity I didn't commit and then make my demands, and no one would be any the wiser...

What ***** me off, is that I know I am going to a place which in reality is not safe, yet the place I really want to come to is off the list...
And I am not afraid of going to either place, I just hate the hypocrisy of it all. :dv Disengage Rant Mode: ... and Breath,,,,, :cg

Well you could get caught before you blew yourself up and spend the rest of your life in prison.

Suicide bombers are a different kettle of fish... the gunmen terrorists are Hit and Run. I guess I need to be more specific.
If I was going to commit Suicide, I would take out the leaders, the ones causing all the strife.. not civilians...

This is long overdue, and many may applaud, but ultimately futile...
