Egypt will reapply daylight saving time starting this Thursday, the Egyptian cabinet announced.
The clock will now go an hour forward to readjst to daylight saving time, which was applied in late May and then cancelled during the holy month of Ramadan to shorten the fasting period of Muslims.
Daylight saving time was first adopted in Egypt in 1988 as a way to reduce electricity consumption. The energy ministry later submitted a study to the cabinet showing the move had no impact on energy consumption.
In Egypt, standard time is GMT (UTC)+2. Daylight saving time is GMT+3.

I'm no longer sure if Sunday will fall immediately after Saturday next weekend.
I will await the next announcement from the Egyptian cabinet.

According to Aswat Masriya newspaper, the clocks will change on July 31st:
CAIRO, July 22 (Aswat Masriya) Daylight saving time (DST) will be restored on Thursday July 31, announced the Egyptian cabinet.
The clock will shift one hour forward starting Thursday midnight, following the end of Eid al-Fitr, a religious holiday which marks the end of fasting in Ramadan, which is celebrated by the Muslim majority in Egypt.
DST was abolished three years earlier, following the January uprising, but the decision to restore it came in order to alleviate Egypt's energy crisis, explained the statement.
The government said that the decision is linked to Egypt’s economic conditions, which led officials to force frequent power cuts in order to ease the load on electricity consumption.

That would seem to be in line with everything I've heard.
Trust Al Ahram to get it wrong

I never thought for a moment that even in full retirement I would still need to clock on and off so regularly.

For what it's worth...the original Cabinet announcement (June 22) :-
Egypt's Cabinet said Thursday that operating with the daylight saving time will be temporarily suspended as of Thursday midnight on the advent of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
Clocks will be turned back by 60 minutes to standard time at midnight Thursday, June 26.
It will be resumed after the end of Ramadan on midnight of Thursday on July 31, the Cabinet said.

Starting Friday, 31 July, Egyptians will reapply daylight saving time with the end of Ramadan.

Aaaah.....my beloved Egypt

The Land That Time Forgot....or perhaps The Land That Forgot Time.
Getting it right at the second attempt is pretty impressive (they weren't so hot with pyramids).
The end of Ramadan and the commencement of Eid el Fitr is still down to the sighting of the new moon crescent by some old duffer in Cairo. No change there then....for the last 1400 years.
The apparent discrepancy between Al Ahram's original announcement and the date pronounced everywhere else was reported on several local forums. I don't recall a single Egyptian taking the slightest interest. It was if "An hour here....an hour there....who cares?"
Welcome to Egypt

Next thing we will be hearing is how much Electricity this experiment saved, when in actual fact it will be the amount of power cuts that saved the electricity. Come on Al Ahram do your bit!!
