Pomegranate tree.

Egyptian Pomegranate has a citrus taste and is very juicy. There are lots of drinks and even foods that are prepared with the pomegranate fruit. Pomegranates have favorable effect on strokes and heart disease as it helps in lowering of bad cholesterol. It helps to prevent premature aging as they help in slowing down the formation of wrinkles in one’s skin.

At the moment the pomegranate season is in full swing. It runs from first week in September until December.

According to the Ebers Papyrus, one of the oldest and most important medical papyri of ancient Egypt [1550 BC], Egyptians used the pomegranate for treatment of tapeworm and other infections........

Pomegranates are just starting to be in full swing here. Eat one a day when I can get them. Deee-licious.......

Got one in our garden. The fruit are almost finished now though.

Lots of Pommie trees here in Datca, Carrie, but must confess I don't care for them. We also have a concentrated fruit syrup called Nar, which is used in cooking, as an addition to salad dressings or even over ice cream. Let me know if you'd like some.

Loads of them in Turkey when I was there. I think Turkey is one of the largest exporters of this fruit..
I would just pull one off a tree, open it up with my penknife and share one with my wife as we walked along.. Lovely..

I planted two pomegranate shrubs seven years ago in very large tubs. One remained a bush but the other is quite a large tree. Both flower, bell shaped waxy looking reds, and fruit. Had fruit off the tree, not bad just a little tarty. This year hardly any flowers and no fruit so I have spent nearly two weeks breaking open the tiled floor and concrete base and planting all into the soil. One thing I like about a garden here is the fruit trees that you can grow. I have two lemons, a lime, mango and a tangerine, all now safely bedded into the soil so hopefully I will get a bigger crop than the usual two, if I'm lucky, from each tree and the cats can no longer reach them, having no pot to stand on, and knock them off while playing 'swing the bosses fruits.' This is, of course, is in relation to the fruits on the branches, not mine.

Yes they are open, though sometimes they block them off for a day or two (maybe for more maintenance).
