This world can be overwhelming sometimes, especially for people like me.
one evening in a caravan by the ocean, not being in the best of moods, I was about to turn off the TV my wife had left on, and retire to bed, then this film came on..

Enjoy..

http://putlocker.is/watch-the-hitchhike ... ocker.html

Synopsis: Everyone has bad mornings. You wake up late, you stub your toe, you burn the toast...but for a man named Arthur Dent, this goes far beyond a bad day. When he learns that a friend of his is actually an alien with advanced knowledge of Earth's impending destruction, he is transported off the Earth seconds before it is exploded to make way for a new hyperspace motorway. And as if that's not enough, throw in being wanted by the police, Earth II, an insane electronic encyclopedia, no tea whatsoever, a chronically depressed robot and the search for the meaning of life, and you've got the greatest adventure off Earth.

I enjoyed watching this program when it was first aired on TV. Should imagine that it looks quite outdated by today's standards.

It is indeed, I struggled with the series on TV, mainly because i didnt see them all.. Busy busy teenager back then.

I was told the meaning of life by a very wise man. Not what most people could ever imagine, myself included. It took me a long time to realise his truth by realising it myself one night.

Down we go... :cg

The meaning of life? Ask a meaningless question & you'll get a meaningless answer....."42" according to Douglas Adams :cg

If I'm feeling a bit 'down' I look out the window at the blue sky and waving palm fronds....and suddenly feel much better :wi

I do a similar thing every morning when first seeing myself in the bathroom mirror. ''Made it through to another day.'' :up Appreciate what you have, you know it makes sense.

The sight of my face first thing in the morning doesn't have quite the same "uplifting" effect on me  ....but I get your drift :wi

Many of my friends are quite hyper and very happy but also exhibit the opposite in depression. Me I soon realised that if you burn to bright you burn out. I prefer the constant state of naive wonder & amusement with my cup always half full.
I never have & never will wear the 'robe of doom'… 'that's for suckers…

Mornings are filled with discomfort, wake up and feeling warm under the covers, as soon as I get out of bed to pee, I feel the chill in the air....I'm sensitive to cold. The temperature inside the room is 68 degrees. The bathroom feels even colder as I sit down on the hard toilet seat to urinate. The sensation of having to defecate has not stirred about as of yet, that's after a cup or two of coffee. After I venture into the kitchen to make coffee, I feel the murky taste of stagnancy on my breath, need to brush teeth soon and of course, my body and my hair feels lifeless & dirty due to oxygen, skin cells, & general permeation of the body & the air. I'll have to take a shower, even though I'm cold & uncomfortable. My nose is stuffed and I feel a sinus situation as well. After the coffee is consumed, I go BACK into the bathroom to defecate, messy & time consuming but however necessary to feel comfortable. OH NO, a period cramp is stirring about...great. I feel disgusting, a bit crampy, hungry, cold, and dirty. Life is discomfort upon waking and we continue our day trying to achieve comfort. Vicious cycle of the human body and existence. Oh yeah and thank you PARENTS for ******* and causing this mess called "me"....you should be so proud.

Life is just a ceaseless series of activities to avoid or alleviate discomfort. When i think about it, literally everything can be broken down to this.

Urination,defecation..it's all part of LIFE Jewel!
Period cramps,bleeding..well that's all part of being a woman!

Just think on and consider yourself lucky!

I change catheters and stoma bags for a living!I deal with men who would be so happy to urinate and defecate without medical and nursing assistance!

Count your blessings! No one I treat blames their parents for their misfortune. They're just happy to be alive!

Sorry ST not me! I'm an antinatal nihilist so therefore do none of those Pollyanna euphemisms that you talk about " count my blessings" or " rise above it" there's another one.

You say you change catheters and stoma bags therefore I take it you are in a care service of some sort, and you must witness first hand all the pain and suffering that is part of our existence, the human body is flawed to begin with, and only gets worse as we age. What's to like?

I think this to be true of many people ...the whole of life is a lie really.

Jewel-You need to watch more animal programs on tv. You will see that life consists of eating or being eaten, mating once in the spring, and migrating when the dry season comes to find a dirty pool of water to drink from.

Watching such programs, Glyph, would only reinforce Jewel's view that life is "pointless'

Mercifully, most of us find pleasure (if not 'meaning') in our existence, whether through the medium of religious faith or, in my case, the fascination of nature and......well....all sorts of things far too complex to analyse in this forum :wi

I do tend to see how much further my wrinkles have dropped during the night.

Its so uplifting to read what other folk have to contend with in the mornings. Bodily functions, we all have them, but at times its a wonder if any other human being would like to be in our company after reading this one

Its all about perspective - glass half full or empty.

A negative view, views "flawed" as broken or incomplete, a positive one as "not perfect" and lets face it, who or what is apart from a Michael Vaughan cover drive.

The human body is a magnificently evolved machine, self maintaining and self repairing, physically its the most versatile species on the planet and with its mental capacity is capable of achieving great things - look at the pyramids and Angkor Wat.

Im not saying this is true of you but I do find that some professional animal lovers seem to balance that love with less respect and regard for their fellow humans.

I had a partner once who loved animals, we had endless arguments because quite unashamedly she said that faced with a choice between saving a human or an animal she would choose the animal every time.

I could never admire that, still we are all different!

In closing, I think Shakespear summed it up excellently in Hamlet:

What a piece of worke is a man! how Noble in
Reason? how infinite in faculty? in forme and mouing
how expresse and admirable? in Action, how like an Angel?
in apprehension, how like a God?

Yes Glyph I agree it is all gladiator wars in the arena of our existence whatever animal species we happen to be...
phpBB [video]

Some of our defects are shamefully evident for the world to see ....
Pity the girl with acne scars, a poorly scarred cleft lip operation, dwarfism, morbid obesity, spina Bifida, large breasts, male breasts, extreme myopia requiring thick lenses, albinism, a facial birthmark , but some defects can be hidden such as bi polar syndrome, OCD, color blindness, a bleeding syndrome , gum disease , arthritis in mild forms and allergies
I think the obvious defects are the most damaging .
I was lucky not to have visible defects . I found it easy to get employment and dates. Life is so unfair for so many...

Zooropa are you a Pollyanna type then? The human body is just a meat machine and is fatally flawed it is high maintenance which gets worse as it ages and decays.

Jewel....you are right in one respect, Life can be so unfair.

Here most us are, happy & contented (most of the time)...in our deluded state..... whilst you suffer the daily angst of a pointless & at times painful "real world" .

It must really **** you off :cg

No, in fact friends say im too often downbeat.

I brought balance to your view of the human species which I thought to be overly critical, I balanced it up by pointing out the positives.

I must say, for you to consider the pointing out of what this species has achieved as "Pollyanna" like tendencies gives us an insight into your own psyche, I really think you need to speak with someone, im not being nasty or funny, I genuinely think from what ive read in your posts that you have an unhealthy life view which needs addressing.

This is evident by your apparent logic that anything countering your extreme downbeat view as pollyannish.

You must be very unhappy.

With regards to the shamefully evident human imperfections you refer to or to avoid another question regarding being pollyannish, deformities, the same occurs across the animal kingdom.

In regards to having facial blemishes, there are things that can counter that, just look at the Brazilian footballer Ronald's face and then look at his wife!

PS, I hope your chat during the dates was somewhat more upbeat!

Jewel, I am ashamed for you writing that crap. If you dont want period bother, go on the pill for 25 years with no days off, like I did, all the money I saved has been very useful . . . and if you want to be miserable get out and do charity work, the hard work, and not the standing around in a charity shop selling stuff. Oh and hey Newcastle, I too look out the door in the morning to see my palm trees and (usually) blue sky - - - :D
