Mushrooms giant Shrooms.
When I first came here one of my better ideas was to use tombs, there's a lot of them about, trust me! As……. Mushroom beds.
"No Go" said our local green fingered MD to hot. I retorted "that if they can grow MJ out in the wadi's using solar pumps I can grow mushrooms"
Anyhow besides being able to buy Egyptian mushrooms here for at least three years last week I bought my first giant mushrooms. Things can only get better, did you know that there are desert truffles that grow here, what we really need are a couple of pigs to 'smell out the truffles, 'All is just a great eating' JC.
I did try a mushroom bed here once, no go and only found tiny toadstools growing out from under my water pots.
My mate Big Nose brings me a selection of shrooms from Camden market, great with bacon, eggs, black pudding and beans…..
Ps: Tonights feast cheese lamb tagine with shrooms + obelisk!
Pss: Dried Porchini shrooms are dirt cheap in Little Italy EC1.

I saw those giant mushrooms last week too. I think it was only the first or second time I have seen them so they must be hitting the shelves countrywide.

My Lithuanian stepmum goes mushroom picking in Scotland all the time Who2!

She knows them all, which ones to pick..and those to avoid!
She has cleaned up woodland,football pitches,country roads,etc.

She "preserves"them! Her joy is "uncontained"when she finds them!
So far,she has not "killed"any of us with her findings!

We enjoy mushroom pate, deep fried, steamed, boiled,et al!

She also makes that horrible drink "Grebo!"

I pass on that one!

Woodland "shrooms"are much better than cultivated ones!

Maybe the dry climate in Luxor is not conducive to mushroom growing!

Still too hot.

And too much variation in temperature each day.

They like an ambient temperature of not more than 60F if I remember correctly. 8)

I had the same idea, you can buy soil in the UK that is inpregnated with mushroom spores, brought some and nothing, zilch, not a sign of anything. Then what do you do with the soil, didn't want to risk spreading anything so me and a friend had a nice big bonfire and burnt the lot.

Although there are many health benefits to eating mushrooms, anti cancer, stress relief, fat burners, I utterly detest the smell and taste of them. [Although at times living here one or two of the magic variety may of been beneficial.]
