Big surprise for Egyptian history fans, Special Christmas in Egypt
Have you been to the Egyptian museum in Tahrir before and had to leave your camera before entering the museum building?

It has been a long time since photography was allowed in the museum which hosts the largest collection of the ancient Egyptian antiquities.

At a press conference held at the Grand Egyptian museum, minister of antiquities Dr. Mamdouh El Damaty announced a big surprise for the Egyptology buffs and visitors to Egypt.

The Minister of Antiquities said "For the Christmas holiday season, photography with no flash will be allowed in the Egyptian museum in Tahrir for all visitors starting from 1st of December 2015 till 7th of January 2016."

Is this the best Christmas present or what?!

Great news. But will they clean the glass in the display cases?

Never mind the glass! I'm sure many people will be writing letters to Father Christmas hoping that the Christmas Gift will be bestowed upon Luxor too and photography allowed in the Valley of the Kings, and perhaps even some of the tombs.

x:lol:

If there is no one about, in either the museum or the tombs, the guardians are often found with their hands out offering the chance of a photo with no flash. It just means you wont have to be quite so quick to take a picture

Unfortunately, that is all part of the great tourism problem in my opinion. People are quick to complain about hassle and harrasment because so many people Egyptians are wanting baksheesh, and yet there are many people who are equally quick to dole out the dosh when it suits there own ends such as getting a photograph in a tomb, or even bagging a good sunbed at the pool in advance. It's a vicious circle.
