Someone in the UK is trying to introduce a new law entitling women to period leave.
Now I know many women suffer from painful periods but surely if they are so bad then going on the "sick" should suffice, if this was introduced then it would make women more unemployable then before. If we want equality then get on with it girls and stop whining.

Re: Period leave
I read an article about that the other day, although I don't think it was to do with changing law. It made me quite cross when I considered my own history and as much as time off would have been a blessed relief all too often, I would not have even considered it. As a manager, I did sometimes send women home who were more than a tinge green because of the pain, and it wasn't logged as going home sick, but they had made the effort to come in and do their best at their jobs. That was always a discretionary thing though, and a very rare event.
Now you've reminded me of the article I must look for it again because I seem to recall that it said 'period leave' was standard practice somewhere and I think it was Japan. I should ask one of my numerous Japanese women friends about it if that is case.
Edit. This isn't the article I read the other day, although this one makes more sense in terms of it's acceptability (to me anyway). It may give those that haven't heard about this a better idea of the subject matter.

Re: Period leave
Why does no one mention the monthly pains us men have to go through.
I once lived with 3 air hostesses they were Polish and they all congregated to have their period pains together.
Pretty weird living in a house with three wimmin all moaning, screaming & swearing at all and everything.
I advise all men to try it, then decide living on one's own is easier by far..
Ps: "Ive got the painters in at present' was a poor excuse for not getting a leg over, mind you, it never put me off.
'Probably just to much information, but hey! I didn't start this conversation...

Try working with the Egyptian girls here Carrie when "that time of the month" appears they either get sent home or throw a sicky! Dont know how they got away with it .I hear its a taboo/private subject and no one must know..shhhhh! Also the lack of natural births here these days?I wonder why? Or is it me, being a hard woman of the world?

Re: Period leave
Natural birth does anyone have one here? I often wonder if it has anything to do with FGM.

Re: Period leave
I think that is what is being suggested in one of the articles. Flexi hours/days would allow the women to take time of when needed and she would be able to work when she is more crative/productive. I can't see how this would work across the whole employment sector e.g. teaching, but it could in some areas.

Whatever... I just wish they'd stop dripping on about it.
I used to enjoy my free periods at school.
