"They"say!

Post by Scottishtourist »

Being a member of forum now for a few years,it is apparant that gossip is "rife"in Luxor.
So..who are the best people to obtain information from?Fellow expats, fellow posters..or locals?

And..is this information helpful?Or just plain stupid and derogatory?

I used to be friendly with an old lady in my home town.Used to see her at Mass, and she took a shine to my youngest daughter, would give her sweets, knit her hats, etc. Her nickname was "they say May!!"cos apart from church, she ventured nowhere else!

But..she knew everything that was going on in the town.A new building going up?"They say May"could tell me all about it!It was a nursing home..or a supermarket..and she was always correct! There was never any doubting what she said..cos for some reason, she just knew!!

I miss her,cos she died a few years ago.I miss the gossip, the information, etc.Rumours abound in my small town and "they say May"is no longer there to confirm or deny them!

So..where do you go for your "gossip?"
Was there someone you could trust, who knew exactly what was going on?

Or,do you find now that everything comes to you "second hand"and the truth of the matter is somewhere in the middle of the "Chinese Whispers?"

I am sorry to say, but dont trust anyone 100%, ex-pats or locals

Most ex-pats like to think they know everything and most locals will tell you anything just to make you happy :)

Everyone has a story on someone else so it must mean all ex-pats are no good. :tk

The stories I have heard about myself after leaving Egypt are hillarious.

Take any gossip etc with a pinch of salt.

Gossip/gossips don't need to be sought out. If you are unfortunate enough it/they will find you before you know it.

I don't do gossip, but unfortunately it does tend to slip into conversations when certain ''key'' words are used. One of the main reasons that I spend so much time in my own company is that I'm away from such conversations, conversations that hold no interest for me, but conversations that seem to play such a dominant part in others lives. I genuinely do not care what other folk are getting up to, or how their lives are panning out. My friend when visiting, she loves a bit of gossip, starts to say ''I heard, someone was saying'' I just hold my hand up to indicate that I'm not interested. She gets the massage and usually puts the kettle on muttering ''marshie.''

I just think if they are talking about me they are leaving someone else alone.
Might be selfish but I really don't care what others are doing or not doing, no interest.

I personally love a good bit of gossip, I never know, who is talking about 'whom & don't really give a sh*t,
but if one lives in a small village even a big expanded village, like the West Bank any gossip is good, your ex-pat gossip is rubbish compared to real 'local gossip.
But then I doubt if they, the real locals share much real gossip with the Ramla 'rowdies, that lot down on the waterfront, them there white-folks..
Ps: Making up a good bit of gossip and seeing how long it takes to go full circle to get back to you is always good fun!

Being a loner, I miss out on much of the good stuff, I am sure, or I am the last to hear it. The time I spend with friends is usually too precious for gossip.

I have heard some pieces of gossip, though, that could really hurt innocent people. My friends should take my word for it that they are all based on misunderstandings, but noone has been willing to let me spoil the fun and the lies go on. In one case, someone was accused of stealing something that belonged to me. I had given it to them, and whenever I tell people to pass that news instead of what they thought had happened, they all say that they will not gossip.

Someone was accused of a serious crime and asked me to show others the clear proof that they had been victims themselves, but noone cared, the rumour goes on.

Lately I heard gossip about a dear friend who has left Luxor and cannot defend themselves, again, obviously a misunderstanding and I have the proof but no way will "they" give up the joy of spreading the lies. :(

"They" also say! that (NAME REMOVED) will be refused a visa in the near future; the Egyptian bint and most of her family are all playing a nice game with him which will land them some nice property; they are just waiting for him to finish some property extensions :urm:

Just before anyone asks, Stepping Stone is not another of my pseudonyms. I like the sense of humour though, for Vic. Mel. it brought a smile to my face.

And they say that overall, the planet has less people suffering from mental heath problems than before. Yet here we are, one new member that is obviously suffering a great deal. My heart felt feelings towards you. I often wondered if its a sexual thing that people have, naming names and spicing them up with a bit of gossip or innuendo. These folk use other peoples names freely, but lack the backbone to use their own. Why is that? I consider myself an intelligent person, but even intelligent people can get caught unawares, as I was with the visa. Caused me a lot of lost sleep. But being a clever person, I put into motion certain things that GUARANTEE that if any major future problems occur in regards with the visa, my property will be fully protected no matter where I am, and I will no longer worry if I'm refused a visa. Sorry to disappoint you, but this is what clever folk do.

I look forwards to your input and just hope that keefy will not lock the topic because names have been used. If you need further information on me, just look me up on the very well know Luxor wardens FB page. There you will find my phone number, but unfortunately because some moron attempted to hack into my e-mail given, that is no longer operational.

:tk Egyptian bint? An unusual use of a little used terminology, and I only know one person that uses the term.

PS, in future, please show the common courtesy in using capitals when stating my name, eg. The D&R. :up

I'm surprised that you consider this tripe funny MT, not that long ago you were calling such contributors on social media sites the filth of the earth for stating similar things about yourself. Giving two likes ST, really?

I use the word bint regularly but it sure as hell isnt me. I would think my spelling and mannerisms would be glaringly obvious if I created another persona  Bear in mind though, bint is a fairly common scouse ism so it could narrow the suspect down to a northerner

The posts above aren't polite, but it's also really creepy that you would interpret them this way since they in no way seem to suggest anything like that. Ewww.

Not Funny ha ha "D" funny has in silly farm. But it will come out when more posts are made, new members always slip up in some way or other if they are pretending to be a resurrection of old members. See how they know surnames! Time to put thinking hats on rather than make accusations. They obviously do not live in the U.S. Like their flag suggests. They are not willing to even say male or female. There is only a couple of people I can think of, who will know the names of people who have never mentioned their surnames, and up to press only two members have been named. All members know my surname I make not attempt to hide it because I have nothing to hide myself. So when my name is mentioned it will be of no surprise to me.
Keefy though will have the IP number of the device when the membership application was made and also, don't forget an e-mail address of the application. So all members are known. Keeky will also know which Country the application was made from. They may have used IP blocker, but I think they would not have got membership via this. I mentioned IP blocker because it's that program that normally changes your communication to the U.S. So don't forget someone knows!
