I thought that it was the roof of his villa after it had finished sinking into the supposed bogland that it had been built on.

[sorry, couldn't resist the temptation]

Six months ago we had a brand new street, a street that was kept nearly spotlessly clean. Now it is a dangerous and absolute disgrace after they dug countless trenches up an down and across for the new gas mains and branch offs. If you are unlucky and only have the rear seat to sit on on the local buses, your back is fair knackered by the time you get off. And dust, you have cover your nose if walking down the road due to all this mess. And I know, another winging British expat complaining about bumpy roads and dust when others, locals, have had to live with these conditions every day of their lives... blah blah blah.

Whose fault is that though "D", look after things and do general maintenance and mostly things stay alright.
