An acquired taste?

Honourable No. ! son's mother is down from Cairo for a couple of weeks and , in celebration, we're having pigeon tonight.
I understand it's traditional Egyptian fare....I've never tried it before. Sounds like too much bother for too little.
Mother, handing out what I thought were dates to the kids round the pool.....offers me one.
I'm a tad shortsighted....popped it in my mouth.....
Boiled pigeon heads!!! You're kidding?!?!
Give me sheep's eyeballs any day.

So did I, LLL. However, I think my reaction to boiled pigeon head might have been a tad stronger than Newcastle's!

I quite like the stuffed pigeon, but I just can't eat it the Egyptian way. I have to pick at it, which then leaves me with another problem because I hate food debris - bones and skin - on my plate.
Not sure what my reaction to pigeon head would be but I'm sure it would not be favourable.
I love the way the Moroccans cook pigeon - as a semi sweet and savoury filled pastry dish. Delicious - and no debris!

Did the head include the beaks? I could crunch through a head but I think I'd draw the line at crunching a beak .....

Reminds me of this one, on my breakfast table earlier this year.
The overhead fan had dismembered a sparrow. I originally mistook the head for a red date.

Yep....it was only when I noticed the beak that I realised this wasn't a juicy date!!
I still feel queasy to think that it brushed my lips.

That's quite similar ...if you can envisage it par-boiled

In my travels and livings in other parts of the world I've eaten many different things but I think I'd draw the line at beaks. Somehow crunching a beak just isn't a flavor I'd even want to cultivate.....on second thought........nahhhhhh no second thought - couldn't wouldn't do it (eat a beak that is)

You should of got stuck in as these are very good for keeping your pecker up.

[For those that do not know, an old English saying meaning to keep you healthy]

If that is true I think I'd rather stick to the An Apple A Day Keeps the Doctor Away rule.
