What, about old age, do you fear most?

Getting older is an inevitable and brings with it decreasing abilities. What do you fear the most about getting old?

For me it is losing my independence and mobility. I'd hate to have to rely on anybody else to get me around so that I'd be housebound and couldn't come and go as I pleased.

What is your biggest fear?

All the above, plus I fear:

Not being physically able to clip my own toenails
Sitting in a Parker Knoll chair with 20 other elderly folk watching daytime TV
Living in a 'post-brexit' UK
Becoming increasingly irritated by being asked questions simply because I'm getting on .....

I fear dementia and Alzheimers BUT if you have them do you really know you do?

MAYBE I have that now (and don't know it)

I intend to be a real cranky crabbie old woman who is going to stay in my own house 'til they drag me out. I'll make them wish they hadn't too. No intention of becoming a lovely gracious sedate little old lady at all. :a21: :a21:

OMG God forbid "Cream of Wheat" - that stuff is wicked! Porridge is ok but cream of wheat is pure poop.

AND I will now Thank You Dusak for putting that fear into my head as something else not to look forward to when I'm old and in my dotage.

:P :P :P

Having to work longer into older age, and hoping that I might have enough health and energy left to enjoy any money I may have.
A final life date may help me budget better.

I'd hate to lose my eyesight. I think I could tolerate slowly going deaf (probably am now) but I would hate to go blind. That would be so incredibly limiting.

I know I'm creaking and groaning now a tad with the odd bit of arthritis in my knee and hip. Notice my thumbs sometimes crimp with a minute touch of pain and I don't snap back nearly as fast as I used to but so far I haven't had to make any really big changes to my lifestyle to accommodate 'old age' soooo am still rather in denial I'm getting old.

Oh for God sake, you all sound like you are all suffering from manic depression, either get a real life, or reach for the high dose Valium.

There speaks the man who has told us more about his little pills than anyone else on the forum 8)

I am certain, and would not for one moment suspect that your above statement is malicious in any shape or form, and am sure others would agree.

There is a very special reason why without the aid of an old Mims or even an up to date BNF, why I have a sound knowledge of 'his little pills' as you call them. I think there are two people who still look in on this site who would find it laughable at the very thought of me even taking an aspirin, even after having read some comments on here. :wi :wi :wi :wi :wi .

Absolutely correct, but could you repeat the rest in English?
For anyone who is bewildered by MIMS, it is an acronym for an online database of prescription and generic drugs and BNF is The British National Formulary, or in A4s case it may be British National Front, who knows, its all up for debate 8)

I'm inclined to believe you .Mixing pills with alcohol (5 glasses !) is most unwise. Your friendly nurse ST will confirm.

Talking of old age.....and old curmudgeons.....

An elderly acquaintance of mine, whose particular grumble was about the youth of today....kids....noise etc., was asked about how he'd like to be remembered and his funerary arrangements

"Sod that" he replied. " But I would like my remains scattered over Disney World".

Odd, I thought, as he loathed kids.

Then he added :

"And I absolutely DO NOT want to be cremated".
