Duty Free Shops in Luxor
As I'll be flying to Luxor via Cairo I'll have to buy them either at the airport or downtown Luxor. Anyone any idea where they are? I'll be staying at the Sonesta for a few days.

The Duty free shop is up near KFC take the road opposite towards Luxor bridge its about 100 meters on the right.
there is also one as you leave the airport you can get 4 liters there as opposed to only 3 liters in town.
Prices are now quite high iirc

Re: Duty Free Shops in Luxor
Last time I visited the one in Luxor it was very poorly stocked, prices as Bombay said very high, best to go to duty free at the airport in Cairo. Not sure if you will be able to go in Luxor airport since you will be arriving on a domestic flight here.

Re: Duty Free Shops in Luxor
I always buy my Duty Free in Luxor airport. Although I arrive by domestic flight, I'd just show the boarding stubs for both flights if asked - I never have been. Also I usually have to argue to get 4 rather than 3 bottles, and an extra carton of fags. The Duty Free shop near to Petra Travel? Forget it!! They wanted £24 for a bottle of bog standard whiskey! Needless to say, I didn't buy it!

You can bring ONE bottle from outside Egypt in a sealed bag, of course. Half a bottle of wine counts as a bottle, I wonder if 2 liter bottles are accepted ...
You may be asked at arrival, if you have any batteries. That is Egyptian English for bottles.
