Russian drug cheats

Post by newcastle »

That man Putin certainly has some chutzpah....whingeing for all his worth about some Russians being excluded from Rio Olympics. If it wasn't for the spineless IOC, they'd ALL be banned.

"The other sportsmen understand that the quality of their medals will be different," he told the Russian Olympic team at the Kremlin in Moscow.

Putin, who said the Games would be "less of a spectacle" as a result "

Yep...for sure...the medals will have been won fair and square on a level playing field.

At least the IAAF has stuck to its guns and there'll be no Russians in track & field (although triathlon seems to have snuck in)

All athletes concerned should be made to return their medals from the point that it was confirmed drugs enhanced their performance.

It must be a fantastic feeling standing on a podium watching your national flag being raised and the eyes of the world upon you. Then some years later having come fourth you find that number one two or three cheated and you now have been awarded the bronze medal. So disappointing justice having been done in the end doesn't seem to make up for it.

Generally speaking, they do forfeit any medals won in an event for which they tested positive and their ability to compete in future events will be restricted ...or curtailed.

They are looking at retesting some earlier events, where possible, and using the improved detection techniques now available. I suspect several medal winners at the London Olympics are sleeping less easily these days.

As Carrie says, it must be galling to find you were cheated out of a medal and, even if you subsequently receive one, nothing can replace the euphoria of receiving acclamation on the winners' podium.... on the day.

During my school years I was the school, and inter school champion javelin thrower. Smashed all records in my competing years. I didn't have to cheat as I was good at what I did. Pity nowadays they feel the need to use drugs against that of a dedicated training regime to enhance their performance. Of course, it could be said that I was so good because the rest of the competitors were so bad.

Lost in the current furore are new and improved tests from London samples taken at the time, and also from Bejing, (several dozen) showing probable cheating. This has been officially announced but no names or countries have been released. These will get their day in court to disprove the finding. History and improved testing of stored historical samples is catching up because several weeks ago an Australian walker who received a silver in L. was given gold following proof that the Russian gold had cheated.

Lots of individuals cheat but you have to give it to the communists for state sponsored, systematic drug programs. Russia, China and the former East Germany. Some East German drug assisted records from the 80's still stand and a decade or so ago Chinese swimmers won in this country with bodies which were beyond anything anyone had ever seen before. I heard an interview of a former East German athlete who as an early teenager had been so filled with testosterone that it led her to later sex reassignment surgery into a male. She described a near universal system or state organized drugging. Premature deaths amongst East German athletes were common and probably linked to drugging

Also lost in the current static is that the winter games in Sochi, Russia were a racket organized by the KGB (the name of the agents involved has been published in the recent WADA report) with the systematic substitution of all Russian urine samples with 'pure' samples. No exceptions - all were replaced. Unlike retesting after L. and B. there will be no point in this case. They are all guaranteed KGB/FSB clean.

The current Russian Minister of Sport has been personally implicated in an official report in the disappearance of a positive sample of a Russian soccer player but remains on FIFA and the organizing committee of the (Russian based) world cup. The Minister is an old mate of Putins from their time as deputy mayors of Lenningrad. At that time about $US100 million went missing and several Russian journalists have been murdered whilst investigating where it went.

About the only certainty is that FIFA is worse than the IOC so it could be worse. At least, and at this stage, the IOC doesn't have red handed cheats on it.

A recent French TV doco drew a straight line between Jamaican male and female sprint world dominance and the complete absence of any testing and lab facilities in Jamaica. It also suggested, although there are no definitive scientific studies, that some drugs taken for a limited time can have a permanent positive effect on performance years after discontinuance and that these do not show up in testing after discontinuance.

[I've seen this in several reports....and indeed referred to it earlier in this thread.]

[And who can forget the Press sisters, Irina & Tamara, although their outstanding performance and subsequent "retirement" before sex testing was introduced may have been down to natural transgenderism rather than drugs. We'll never know.]

[Do you not receive the BBC down under? There was an extensive documentary recently, and again it was all over the press. "Passing samples through a hole in the lab wall"]

Newcastle - I'm hurt. Well I'm not.

Of course the Sochi racket has got the press. All the Kangaroos are bouncing with its media energy. Poxy Koalas have woken up to listen to the World Service. :D

Although I'm not sure I need to be 'led' by you in bold typing about the BBC in downunder. You have too much faith on state run media. :) You should wean yourself off al Ahram for the same reason. :D

Paradoxically, or maybe not, your sources are the 'biased' US capitalist press and the red rag. Not the BBC.

The story has moved on. No-one has more than 10 seconds attention or memory.

I have a memory and I note that the IOC has now changed tack and drawn back the decision making on Russian participation from the sports organizations to a new ad hoc sub-committee of the IOC.

Guess who they give it to.

Remember the appalling Juan Antonio Samaranch the head of the IOC for 21 years. He the Minister of the butcher Franco and, thank god, jeered and hissed in Sydney in 2000. (At the opening ceremony he was terrified that he would be jeered in front of a billion TV viewers and extraordinary measures were taken to prevent this.) His son, who has barely ever had a real job but is a member of the IOC is now one of three who will determine whether the Russians have been straight and can go to Rio. Really! I am sure he got the job on his merits.

Juan Antonio, had another child and she is 'fully employed' in Olympic sports in an executive role. I'm sure on her merits.

Its a racket and a fraud on everyone.

The French TV doco I referred to earlier was called, in English, 'The Race to Dope". Unfortunately it is no longer available for view on its Australian ABC web-site. Maybe it is available elsewhere?

Now I'm hurt Hafiz! (Well...not really :P )

As if anyone needs to be "weaned off" the press in Egypt (let alone the govt. mouthpiece El Ahram).

And I take exception to the inference that I can't recognise bias when I see it in the media anywhere. Or that my only sources are the ones I might refer to from time to time. :stp

My pet hate in any discussion is the indiscriminate use of hyperbole and my comments on your earlier post (yes....in bold, for ease of reference) were solely addressing comments like "lost in the current furore" and "lost in the static".....referring to matters that were not, in fact, "lost" anywhere!! It ruffled my (ok...oversensitive) feathers...that's all.....all is forgiven. :ks

Maybe the drug cheat story has not been covered to YOUR satisfaction...and it's a story that is developing as it rumbles on. Some of the Russian participants who have made it to Rio may yet be spending their time on Copacabana Beach and not in the Olympic stadium! :ct

I have no argument with your comments on the state of the IOC, FIFA and other international agencies . It is a very good example of how money has corrupted the world of sport - all sports - since they ceased to be amateur.
