Egyptians Who Don't Have A Fridge Will Not Suffer From Price Hikes, Says Minister of Electricity.

That's right, the Egyptian Minister of Electricity said those with no fridges will not exceed 50 watts a month. Lucky them!

The Minister of Electricity, Dr. Mohamed Shaker Shaker released a statement today assuring Egyptians that electricity prices will not affect those with limited income, saying, "Those who do not have fridges, their usage will not exceed the 50 kW, anyway," according to Youm7.

This comes in response to the recently released statement about electricity prices skyrocketing by 40%, a decision that was supposed to be further clarified in today's press conference because Egyptians were outraged at prices hiking in every corner of their lives.

Essentially, with the new chip system we have, there are different chips, at different rates, based on different usage limits. We have seven of them. What the minister clarified today is that you can get the 50 kW chip, which is pretty cheap and will not result in price hikes – but you have to disconnect your fridge.

In addition to that, the minister emphasised the importance of removing subsidies from electricity, saying that the government's money would be better spent on education and healthcare.

If you live on rice and beans, who needs a fridge?

And if there's a rise in the price of bread ....well....."let them eat cake!!"

Good to see Marie Antoinette is alive and well...and advising the Egyptian government :o

Is there enough electricity in the first place to work them? Talking of electricity I remember a post explaining to me that not many of my old villagers had AC Units, well surprise surprise, on the edge of the village where my villa is there are 16 homes and 21 AC units including window mounted units. All fed from one Electrical phase, but if the electrical authority cannot look after their supplies there is hardly likely to be any improvement.
The last time I reported the problem it was Ramadan and the Chief Engineer had locked himself in his office and gone to sleep, so he's not interested either. It's this no Interest attitude that is Egypt's problem.

This cost cutting offer will be cold comfort for many. Not too bad in this :a55: but when it changes to this :a65: I see a lot of theses :sk in the doctors as they begin to suffer the consequences of having no refrigeration to keep their food fresh. Or as fresh as you can buy it here if they use the same outlets as MT.
