Re: Luxor imposes EGP 1,000 fine for wasting drinking water
Once we were diving off Flotta near Scapa Flow.
The Police where going to secretly raid a nearby Island looking for *stolen diving gear.
The postmistress there radioed them up beforehand and asked them to bring 6 sliced loaves over with them.
We heard of this in the hotel bar, even before the Police had set sail from Scrabster...

Does this water drive the turbines at the High Dam in Aswan, before it gets to the street washers, the turbines that produce electricity.... Just throwing another spanner in the works, before it gets suggested...

Well that spanner was probably made in China and is probably brittle.
One assumes all the water comes down the Nile from Ethiopia and some passes through the turbines.
Mind you clever people take their water from wells 45meters down to the secondary Nile where there is a big subterranean aquifer.
Your above response is like pasteurised milk, it's well past my eyes...

If water supplies are to get low, then the water driving the turbines will also be low, meaning the electric supply will be low, maybe lower than it is now! But what's the priority? Who will police this, the same people that policed the 200le fine for dropping litter in the streets?

Re: Luxor imposes EGP 1,000 fine for wasting drinking water
What has the regional capacity for producing DRINKING WATER got to do with the water flowing through the Aswan turbines?

I was under the belief that water for everything came from the Nile, unless of course you have a well, but then again a well gets its water from the subterrainian Nile. Correct me if I am wrong, but I have always been under this impression

Re: Luxor imposes EGP 1,000 fine for wasting drinking water
I've suspected that Upper Egypt has been suffering from a water shortage for some while now. At first I assumed that the laying of the new water mains was the root cause of full days without water, then long periods with a greatly reduced pressure. But one thing that always aroused my curiosity, when the water pressure did return, there was never any sign of discoloration, a sure sign of major repairs or a program of replacing old pipes. This has now been going on for nearly two years with no sign of it returning to what it was before this event. I also thought that they could of been reducing the output of the pumps to save electricity, especially as we have had little or no power cuts this summer, even though, to my mind, it has been hotter this year. I definitely think that this new rule could be a way of prolonging the inevitable, we are slowly running out of water. To enforce this new ruling, you would have enforce it by way of introducing 'water police', patrolling the streets 24/7. Perhaps the easier way would be to just quadruple the water charges overnight. I doubt if the street washers would be so wasteful then. But whatever they come up with, it will, like most of these ''new age rulings,'' be unenforceable. And no, before it is mentioned. my pool is empty, now my new workshop as it has been for the past four years. Perhaps they should stop the creation of new pools and save water that way and make it law that any hotel that is fully or temporally closed is made to keep their pools empty. You also have hotels that have had only a handful of guests in full year, so is it worth the constant refilling of these now unnecessary single use attractions? Better to cut out the infection in its early days before its to late. Talking about pools, the new one in Luxor is, according to my taxi driver, getting a bad reputation for having valuables stolen from the changing rooms.

Anyone daft enough to leave valuables in a public swimming pool deserves to have them nicked. That would be a risk anywhere in the world ( I speak from personal experience!)Dusak wrote:Talking about pools, the new one in Luxor is, according to my taxi driver, getting a bad reputation for having valuables stolen from the changing rooms.
It's even more surprising that anyone using a public pool in Luxor HAS "valuables"

D some of the villagers in Al Bairat had their Electric Supplies checked and the voltage was between 195 and 205 volts. All appliances, kettles, toasters, TV's, washing machines, fridges all work on 220/230 volts so all are or working properly and also prolonged exposure to low voltages does damage to the appliances.
