At risk of disappointing some, I am not signing off from the forum. I am wondering though how you 'sign off' when it comes to emails.

My boss is a non English gentleman of maturing years who was taught English in a very formal manner. Recently, the subject of how we sign off emails has come up and, to my surprise, he is becoming more informal than I am in this matter, although I believe it is more to do with following the trend of the way correspondents sign off their emails to him. Personally, I don't like all this dumbing down and making everything so informal and 'lovey dovey', especially in the work place.

I've just read the following article on 26 email sign-offs you should usually avoid and can't believe tha some of them are ever considered appropriate.

How do you sign off emails?
Are you a stickler for the 'old fashioned', more formal, ways?
Do you think the way you sign off affects the overall content and intent of an email, or do you think it doesn't really matter as long as the content of the message is clear?

Unless it's to family, I usually sign off with "Regards ( name) "

That makes me even happier with my choice

I had never heard of Aliza Licht before reading the article so her opinion is not likely to sway me one way or another.

In more recent times, I find I am using sign-offs such as Yours sincerely and Yours faithfully less and less in letters and using Regards or Kind Regards more, this has carried on down to my email usage too.
