One of the foremost journalist/writers of the 20th century meets Michael Palin to chat about her extraordinary life. Well worth catching this programme if you can.
I'm currently reading Pax Britannica..her trilogy on the British Empire after which it will be Conundrum, the autobiographical story of her gender reassignment.
Her numerous travel books are without parallel.
Jan is now 90 and lives in Wales with her lifetime partner Elizabeth Tuckniss, whom she first (as a man) married and by whom she had four children. After Jan's gender reassignment they divorced, for technical reasons, and now live in a Civil Partnership!
