It's been reported that Donald J Buttbubble has been invited to Cairo, even though his pledge to American people included the shutting down of American Borders to Muslims, and to send many Muslims back home.

Of course......and he and Sisi have a mutual admiration pact

Sisi was quick off the mark with his congratulations and will be pleased with the US election result. The constant harping from Obama & co about Egypt's suppression of freedom, human rights etc were extremely tiresome and Trump is unlikely to follow in their steps.

Obama/Clinton are also widely viewed by the political elite in Egypt as supporters of the MB & instigators of ISIS (I kid you not!).

Whether the egyptian hoi polloi (sorry Brian ;) ) are that bothered is difficult to tell. In answer to Bombay's question on another thread, I haven't noticed much comment on social media. I suspect your average Egyptian is far more preoccupied with soaring prices

What about Trumps insult to the Muslim faith, and the fact he is closing US borders to all Muslims. Suppose that does not include Muslim leaders then! I would have thought following his insults to Muslims he would not be all that welcome here. In Gezera yesterday there were plenty of local people up in arms about Trump, mentioning his insults.

He's not closing the US borders to muslims...that would be unconstitutional.

He's backtracking on his inflammatory anti-muslim remarks...they've been removed from his website.

His remarks obviously don't resonate with the ruling faction in Egypt....who welcome his election.

I suspect most of the Egyptian residents of Gezira are barely aware, and couldn't care less, that the US has a new president. They will be focused on the rising cost of living.

Well I live in Gezira and never saw any sign of dissatisfaction about the election of Trump, spoke to people and they didn't care. What I did hear was complaints about the vast increase in the price of flour, the shortage of sugar. Most have other things to bother about.
Perhaps you didn't see any demonstrations MT you just heard about them on the grape vine or in other words gossip. It is possible that someone was winding you up to see how quickly YOU spread the word?

Nobody winding me up, in fact I had to walk away after a 15min lecture outside the fruit shop.

Oh I see one person spoke to you about it outside the fruit shop. Little different from people in Gezira being "up in arms" about it.
