An explosion has reportedly taken place on the underground system in the Russian city of St Petersburg.

Horrific images from the scene show bloodied commuters lay on a platform.

Eyewitnesses say an explosion took place amid reports of bombings.

"One eyewitness wrote on Twitter: "I was riding down the escalator and suddenly an explosive wave from below, echoing from the tunnel. The station is evacuated. "

My sympathies to those caught up in such a foul deed, I do hope that they find out who is responsible.
